Among the niceties abandoned by modern society is the ability to say, "I'm sorry".   I think litigation killed it.  People seem completely incabable of expressing regret for mistakes or bad behavior.  Instead, they offer justifications, turn the blame back on you, or pretend that you're just easily offended ( Read more... )

I agree that this is a lost art. I think apologizing is important, even if you feel you were not in the wrong. For example, someone tells you "hey, when you did ____ it really made me feel like crap". I think you should say "I'm really sorry you felt like crap." even if it wasn't your intention to make them feel like crap, it's still nice to say sorry. It's definietly a lost art, and a nice courtesy when someone apologizes.
