Find me an internet phone provider that is either free or pretty cheap (or not that cheap, either way), which can run on Mac OS 10.2.8, which i can download and set up right away AND can call landlines. Also, I'm behind some firewalls, which I can get around, but it's a pain in the ass.

or you could download Apple's Boot Camp and install Windows XP and use skype through that. (this is where i laugh at you for being a girl).
and yes, skype is the way to go. you COULD get vonage, but I'm pretty sure you need additional hardware for that, and it's more along the lines of a landline alternative, as opposed to being something useful for a college student.
oh shit i just realized that this is gunna post under my girlfriend's livejournal name.
have fun in china, bitch.

anything you need for skype (or any voip software, or fuckin ANY software that operates over a network) is already embedded into the operating system (i would imagine), especially since you are like, you know, connected to the internet right now.
i would download skype and try to install it anyway. a lot of times software companies will list particular OS versions as a requirement for the software as a technicality, which keeps their liability very low, as they can just say they refuse to "support" it from a tech support standpoint.
give it a shot, assface. there shouldn't be any reason you can't use skype, unless for some gay reason they coded the skype installer to check your OS version and deny the install if the version isn't up to date. that'd be gay.
i'll spare you any more dinsky-ranting-about-computer-stuff, nikkkkkka.
