Pet peeves list

 My pet peeves:

·       Sansa continuously calling Sandor ‘ser’ just to annoy him. This especially applies to ACOK setting fics because I don’t think she would willingly annoy him in that time period.
·       Sandor being afraid to light a camp fire and Sansa having to do it for him.
·       Sandor being as honourable as Ned Stark.
·       Sansa ( Read more... )

Yes, I agree with the ‘Aye’ thing. I remember when I first started reading fanfiction and saw my first ‘Aye’, I immediately thought to myself Sandor didn’t say that in canon and was annoyed by it. With time, I became used to it though and when I began writing my own stuff, I used it just as much as any other regular fic author. At one point, Kim told me in one of her review that my Sandor said aye way too often and while I knew she was right, I kept using it anyway at first but I now, that’s all behind me and I never do it anymore. As time passes, I realise I'm becoming increasingly more of a canon-purist. I think it's a reaction I have in resistance to all those show-canon and modern AUs fics ( ... )

Personally I don't mind "Aye", I have to say. I know Sandor said it only once, but it is widely used in ASOAIF (I once did a search and found a few people using it a lot, if I recall correctly, Stannis the Mannis was a repeat offender, Davos, Asha etc...) So I thought it quite plausable that Sandor might be using it more. Anyway, it is such a good sentiment as well...

But overdoing it is as bad as overdoing 'fucking' and 'bloody' all the time, even when he is thinking. That is actually one of my pet peeve, him cursing all the time.

And hallelujah for the modern sensitivities NOT having place in canon world!

'but it is widely used in ASOAIF (I once did a search and found a few people using it a lot, if I recall correctly, Stannis the Mannis was a repeat offender, Davos, Asha etc...)'

That's a valuable argument. Myself, I'll not use it for him as long as I don’t hear him using it again in canon though.

I agree overdoing anything is annoying. Sandor curses but not that much either and making him say bloody in every sentence is a mistake.

‘Sansa would want him to take pride in his sigil, to reclaim it, so to speak, from what it is associated with (Gregor).’

Or Sansa could tell him “you’re not a dog,” and Sandor reply pretty much what I have argued here. I don’t mind how it happens, I just don’t like when the conclusion is ‘Sandor no longer considers himself as a dog’ because I think that’s wrong considering how sigils are important in Westeros. That’s only my opinion of course.
