Technical points about fanfictions applications
Before any application is done:
- The fanfiction is read, sometimes not in it's entirety. In the case of long fictions, the beginning, some random parts and the end are read because of my motivation's weird way of working. So yes, I won't lie and say that I'm your +70k long fanfiction's greatest fan, just to make it clear from the beginning. I hate to lie and if I read it completely, my motivation just runs away during the translation because I love to discover while translating.
- Never will I apply for a 'long' fanfiction (i.e. 5k-10k+ words or composed by several chapters) without 'giving it a try'. This means that I'm translating about the firsts 5k words or 15% of the fanfiction to see if I could keep with the level and the style prior to sending an application mail. This is also made to ensure that I estimate how long I'll take to translate the whole writing and if I could make it till the end to prevent withdrawing because this could be really frustrating for me and for the readers and I estimate a withdrawal being the equivalent of complete lack of respect toward the author, that I want to avoid.
- Odds are that I apply for a fanfiction because it's epic, make me laugh or just because I think it's a shame that Frenchies don't have a bite of it.
Okay, now, you've received my mail with my application. So before approving my translating, you need to know the conditions about the respect of your work. And this is normal.
- ALL the fanfictions released have the blessings of its original author. NEVER a fanfiction will be released on my behalf without having a 'yes' by its rightful owner first.
- Translations are given full credit, with the name of the original author given into the header and a link provided to the original fiction or whatever masterpost the author wants to in my fanfiction Resume's post.
While the translation is in-progress:
- Technically, you just have to let me work my way and decipher the ancient tales of Dean trying to sedu... Erm, whatever. You just have to wait for the next step.
Before the releasing:
- When the translation is finished, a mail is sent to the author in the case there are questions about the references and/or misunderstood points.
- I'm a culture notes maniac. I always make culture notes when there are facts or references needing further information. If you're an author, don't be surprised to recieve a message notifying you that the translation is finished along with the culture notes translated into English for a checking on your side.
- Every author will recieve a copy of every chapter before its releasing if the timing allows it.
- Normally, no fanfiction will be released before the translation is completely done and the checking has its first half done. So it is possible that there might be periods without any release.
- Only one fanfiction will be released at a time (save special occasion). So if you see that I asked for a fanfiction months ago that is not released yet, and if there is a fanfiction currently in-progress of releasing, this means that your fanfiction will have to wait the one in-progress to be finished.
During the releasing:
- Fanfictions are released under their original name with a translation provided into the header under my ffnet account : http://www.fanfiction.net/u/3864145/Marple_Juice
- Fanfictions may also be released under special conditions on my AO3 account : http://archiveofourown.org/users/Marple_Juice/pseuds/Marple_Juice
- The 1 chapter = 1 week aims at the best quality possible for the fanfiction to make sure that it was translated with no misunderstood passage. It is also thought to make sure that the readers will have 1 chapter per week to ensure a fidelity system with no wait period too long between the chapters.
After the releasing is done:
- I'm quite likely to make a complete pdf of the fanfiction once it is completely released under ff.net. It is for both my own library and for readers who may be interested into it.
- When there is art going with it, the artist will also be asked by me about the use of his/her art for the ff.net image of the fanfiction and for the release of the pdf. And the credit of the art is basically the same as the one for the writing.
- I'm proud to propose an 'after sales service' to the authors, so I'm opened for every change the author may ask (even after the releasing of the chapters) and to provide them a translation of the reviews the readers may leave.
Other technical points:
- I generally give an idea of the releasing delay. Depending of my other activites and my work as well as my translation stock and speed, the pace may be increased. Since it looks like I love the epic and long ones, it may look weird for people to receive applications for fanfictions with a release delay of 6 months, but regarding the previous points, I think it may be worth the wait.
- If there is no soundtrack given in your fanfiction post (or if I was too blind to see one when there was a gorilla in the room), I'll ask you for songs recommendations to amuse me during the translation process.
- If you think that I'm too humble regarding the time spent and the effort that a fanfiction translation takes, just to ease your mind: I made the application myself. No one forced me or asked me to do so. It's just that I decided to come in terms with my masochism (way of speaking) that, I decided to cope with in a creative way. So yes, you sort of help me~ And I think that you deserve far more applause than me because the text was already there, I had not really to make a storyline. I just do my best to make justice to your writings by making it accessible to another range of readers.
