(no subject)
Well, E3 was a little bit of a disappointment this year,
with none of the big three console makers really blowing me away with their presentations.
So here's a quick round up of the major games (in my eyes of course).
Nintendo
The only new title announced was Mario kart on the wii
Online play GET! but it does come with a silly steering wheel shaped bit of plastic
to slot the wiimote into, joining the previously announced Wii zapper
in the realms of useless "official" plastic crap to clip you wiimote to.
They also announced US dates for super smash brothers and super mario galaxies.
But given nintendo europes policy of delaying first part games for months
(with no explanation) i find it difficult to get too excited about that.
And the big announcement from nintendo was WiiFit
If it connects with its target audience it will take over the world.
It's not something i'll be getting much use out of though.
but to be honest the whole presentation left me feeling a bit "meh"
Microsoft
Gears of War and viva pinata are both coming to PC
for vista AND XP.. hah, i guess Halo 2 being vista only didn't work so well for them.
No major surprises though, just a lot of GAMES.. awesome games coming very SOON!
(Halo wars, the Naruto game from ubisoft, Blue dragon, Call of Duty 4:modern combat, Grand Theft Auto IV, Bioshock, Mass effect, virtua fighter 5:online, & Fracture from lucasarts)
Halo 3 was obviously the focus of the show,
with some of the first footage of the single player mode.
(not hugely impressive, but it deffinitely looks like halo)
Rock band received a lot of attention too. i'm all over that game.
(from the makers of guitar hero, but with added microphone and DRUMS support!)
Also from E3 came the news that rock band will feature entire albums available for download & play, with new downloadable content coming out weekly after the games initial release.
Hot! ('though i do wonder how much money i will end up spending on this one game)
Sony
A bit of a strange one this, loads of awesome PSP games shown a new model PSP announced
(not much different from the old one really) and a ton of new ps3 games shown.
so many of them are complete unknowns though, so i guess we'll have to wait and see if they're any good...but i can't say any of them made me feel like rushing out to buy a ps3 right away...Though little big planet and unreal tournament 3 (now a timed exclusive!) came close.
And sony (perhaps unsurprisingly) made a big deal about metal gear solid 4 being a definite ps3 exclusive. (putting an end to the rampant speculation that it would be making its way to 360.)
oh, and Call of Duty 4:modern combat looks awesome on everything
So in summery:
microsoft satisfied..but didn't really surprise me much
Sony made me glad to own a psp (finally) and made me with i could afford a ps3.
and Nintendo really really disappointed me.
Seriously nintendo, what the fuck? If Smash brothers, mario galaxies and metroid dont make it to europe for christmas we need to have serious words..
as i've NEVER known a console to go a full year after launch without a AAA title.
