What IS a date?

Okay, so this is a question that I've kind of been pondering for a whle, and have finally decided to throw it out there and see what everyone else has to say about it. ok.. not saying this is how everyone sees it, but this is kinda my point of view. i think a date is when someone specifically asks you to go out. like saying 'would you like to go out and do 'this' with me sometime'. also, a date generally consists of getting to know the other person in depth but not wanting to let too much show right away, so you are kinda holding back. hanging out with a friend one on one that doesnt usually matter. you are friends so you can talk about just about anything. also there is the physical aspect of a date. the hand holding, arm around the shoulder and of course that goodnite kiss. now not all dates have this, but there is the feeling of the possibility of it happening that makes it a date. the awkwardness of two people out together wondering if it will end up as more than friends hanging out. when you just go out with a friend to hang out, that feeling isnt there. ok, well thats just a slight insight into what i think about the 'date' question. of course, there is more and this is only my opinion, but i ( ... )

To me, basically the word "date" has to be said...like "hey want to go on a date sometime?" etc. Also if the guy pays for you, I consider that a date type thing...I've often wondered this myself too though. So I don't know how much help I am.

it also depends on the circumstances of who asked whom to do said activity....and if applicable, who pays. if you say, "do you want to go out sometime..." and its not an old friend, you are asking them out on a date. :)
