My oldest niece is in the emergency room. Apparently, she decided it would be cool to take some pills, equivalent to Valium. And to wash it down, why some alcohol of course! That was then followed by her passing out at Borders and someone calling 911 ( Read more... )

I've been thinking about this nonstop since you posted it. My heart really goes out to her. I REALLY hope she gets the help she needs. I hesitate to even mention this...but I am really worried that if she tried it once she may do it again. Children whose parents are schizophrenic are highly dispositioned to have the disease themselves. That and becoming bi-polar. I'm not saying that she is, but attempting suicide is a huge sign of both. The older the children get the more suicidal they may become. It's not her fault if this is the case; she really can't help the way she feels and these urges. She really needs someone to talk to and she needs the help of a professional. They all do. These diseases affect everyone differently, she may not have the violent tendencies or the anger. She might just feel worthless and have extreme depression. Of course I am not a doctor, but I have read and try to stay current on this, since it does affect someone in my life. I cried when I heard this about Cassi. I remember her when she was just a toddler. ( ... )

I haven't had a chance to talk to her myself yet, I hope to tomorrow. I did talk to Megan and heard some of the story of how it happened. She went to the mall with a couple of boys that she barely knew. They pressured her into drinking vodka. She doesn't even remember any pills at all, but they found some in her pocket so I wonder if that is a lie.. or if the boys put them there so they wouldn't get in trouble. I'm not really sure. I know at least one of the boys got arrested. I think they were only 17. Megan has her going to a therapist. She is getting help, although from my understanding she isn't very happy about it. I'm just scared that she may rebel against everyone now because she is under lock and key, not allowed to be alone at all. Being 16 is not easy.
