East Attic - Wednesday

Mar 08, 2006 07:37

Veronica was woken up early by an owl delivering a box.

No, that wasn't the strangest thing she'd had happen to her since coming to Fandom High. She just hoped it contained what they needed to make Angel better.

[she's only here for plotty stuff - Janet?, Bel, Phoebe & Al? Anyone else who needs to consult with her on something? I don't know... ( Read more... )

Janet had rolled out of bed, entirely too early, and hauled herself up the stairs to the East Attic. She knocked on Veronica's door. Parker had called yesterday and said there was something in a package.

"It's open," Veronica called from the kitchen area, where she had just finished brewing a pot of coffee.

Janet opened the door and walked in. "Hey, it's Janet," she called.

"Come in, get comfy. Don't mind the box in the middle of the room. Coffee?"

"Yes, thank you," said Janet gratefully. She'd been up a little late last night. She sank down into the armchair. "I think we've got a breakthrough."

Veronica walked in, handed Janet a very large mug of coffee and settled on the couch with her own mug, tucking her feet under her.

"A breakthrough? Really?" she asked, allowing a tinge of hopefulness to creep into her voice.

Janet grinned and took the coffee. "Thank you," she said again. "I think so. I was talking to Dr. Lambert at the clinic last night, trying to determine what element in the blood of a Slayer makes it the antidote to this damned poison." She shook her head. "A Slayer is a Chosen One. One girl in all the world who--whatever." Janet stopped herself, took a gulp of coffee, and went on. "So what if it's not just the fact that she's a Slayer, but that she's a Chosen One? Which we have a million of at this school, as evidenced by the fact that I was able to corral two of them last night at the clinic to get blood samples."

Janet grinned. "There's a distinctly unique element in the blood of a Chosen One as compared to the blood of anyone else. It wasn't exactly the same element, but similar enough that--" She took another drink of her coffee. 'A little late' was actually 'three hours of sleep.' "I think we can make this work, if we get enough blood from enough Chosen Ones, and include whatever the England group picked up."

"That sounds promising," Veronica said. "Oh, that package from England came ridiculously early this morning," she said, pointing to the box in the middle of the floor. "Parker included two things with very vague instructions that might help."

She leaned over and pulled them out of the box to show Janet. "So how do we find Chosen Ones?"

[yay exposition!]

"It does, doesn't it?" asked Janet. She'd already finished half the coffee in her mug, and the caffeine was beginning to help her wake up. "Two things? I think only one is for me." She set down the coffee, glanced at it and picked it back up, then came over to look at the things that Parker had sent over.

"Well, if I'd let everyone put 'Chosen One' on their library card application, this would be a lot easier," said Janet dryly. "Because then I could just pull up their library records. Unfortunately, things can never be that easy."

Veronica shrugged and handed the items in question to Janet. "I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with either of these. I was hoping it would make sense to you."

She pondered the Chosen One thing. "Well, we could do posters. Maybe radio? And word of mouth might be good. I think the Halliwells might be considered chosen, I can talk to them."

"Unicorn horn and bezoar stone?" asked Janet. She frowned. "I think we can use these. Unless the alchemists want one?"

"Posters, definitely," said Janet. "The radio would be good, since I can push a blood drive for two days, but really, no farther than that. And you know a lot of people--send them on in."

OOC: Sorry, the clinic post EXPLODED on me. Which is great, but left you hanging, for which I"m sorry.

Veronica shrugged again. "I don't know anything about that kind of stuff at all. Far as I know, it's all supposed to go to you."

She looked pensive for a moment. "You know, I just thought of something. We might want to keep the blood drive on the down low for now. I don't think Angel will like the idea of drinking human blood."

"I'll take it all then," said Janet, slipping the packages and their instructions in her backpack. "Just send the alchemists to me if they need something."

Janet frowned. "That's a good point. I'll make sure to let people know not to tell Angel. Do you think he'll do it? I mean, if it's a choice between dying or drinking human blood, I hope he'll just--drink."

"I... I don't know," she replied honestly. "I would hope that the fact that these people donated willingly to save his life would get him to..."

"Maybe we can sit on his chest and make him drink?" asked Janet. Then she shook her head. "I know, it's unrealistic." She stood. "I'm going to go see about getting some posters and getting started."
