Though there are much more flashy candies out there, I do not think skittles will ever die because they are classic and simple. As for changing flavors, tastes change. I used to like purple but now I also enjoy the red just as much. Though candy is making leaps and bounds, becoming cooler and more outlandish, I think candies like skittles show that the true classics never die.
