This may come as something of a shock to some of you...

I have decided to take some time off of school and start discerning a call to religious life. I have been wrestling with the idea for years but finally I feel ready to persue it. I don't know what will happen, I might be called, I might not be. Discrenment takes years and takes a long time to work out. But I think I am going to let Our Lord ( Read more... )

Yay! I know what you are going through. I went through my discernment for 2 years before I realized that I can see myself doing nothing else other than entering the Priesthood. The thought of giving up one's life and giving it to the Lord is an awesome feeling. Our generation will build the future of the Church, in whatever capacity we serve Her in. I pray that you hear the Lord's call and answer it without fear, whatever road the Lord may call you to travel.

Of course we will! I tend to agree with my Archbishop Harry Flynn when he says "the layity will save the Church". We young, orthodox Catholics are gonna make huge strides in returning to correct orthdoxy within the Church in America. I'm so glad you're aboard Jason! I couldn't be happier for you!

I'm not sure yet. I haven't looked into any orders yet, but I totally agree with you that I should find a supportive community. I will start by telling my parish priest about my supposed calling and see if he can suggest anything. I have an old high school friend who is actively persuing the religous life right now and she's been a great help information-wise from her convent up north. I felt a strong tug towards the Dominicans a few years back but I will wait and see where He wants me. Thanks for the prayers.

Hooray for Laura!!! I am so pleased for you, as I could feel your conviction and excitement as I read your post. I will be very interested to hear what happens, and what this process teaches you. St. Francis and the Franciscans have always held a special place in my heart for many reasons, but I'll be interested to hear what things are like more ``from the inside''. All my thoughts and prayers are with you as you embark on this next great adventure! Will you finish your undergrad before this happens, or are you taking time off from those studies to begin this?
