[Background]
Mithos' story begins over 4000 years in the past. After being blamed for an unknown incident, he was banished from his hometown of Heimdall along with Martel Yggdrasill, his older sister. They soon heard news that Tethe'alla, the kingdom they resided in, would soon be invaded by the kingdom of Sylvarant and immediately went to warn the royal family of Tethe'alla. However, their warnings fell on deaf ears, simply because they were both half-elves, a race despised by both human and elves alike. Because their warnings were ignored, the capital of Tethe'alla fell.
Around this time, Mithos and Martel were joined by Kratos Aurion, a former protector of Tethe'alla's royal family and a member of Tethe'alla's army. Kratos began to train Mithos in swordsmanship, and eventually the three of them were joined by Yuan Ka-Fai, another half-elf and a former member of Sylvarant's army who wished to expose Mithos' hypocrisy. The four of them set out to end the Kharlan War and restore the Great Kharlan Tree (which had suffered greatly due to the extensive usage of magitechnology), eventually becoming closely knit with one another. Mithos began to create pacts with the summon spirits of the world, his promise being that he would restore the Great Tree to what it originally was. One of the summon spirits Mithos forged a pact with was Ratatosk, the summon spirit of the Kharlan Tree itself. Upon doing so, he gained the Derris Emblem. At one point, Mithos and the others somehow managed to get their hands on Cruxis Crystals.
Eventually, Mithos and his companions were able to bring an end to the Kharlan War, which had gone on for over one thousand years at this point. Unfortunately, any happiness there was did not last long. A human who had helped them on their travels betrayed them and murdered Martel. Her final words were a wish for a world that did not have discrimination.
This event severely changed Mithos, quickly driving him into madness. He told Origin to create the Eternal Sword--a weapon capable of distorting time and creation--for him, and used that sword to split Tethe'alla and Sylvarant into two worlds, which would then compete for the little mana that was left. This would stop magitechnology from completely destroying the world. However, he also had fused the Great Seed, the seed of the withered Kharlan Tree, with his sister's soul, which had been been contained within her Cruxis Crystal despite the fact that her physical body had died, and all of the mana of Derris-Kharlan, the comet that brought the elves to Mithos' world in the first place, was given to Martel in order to sustain her soul while Mithos attempted to revive her. Because he had broken his promise, he had also broken his pacts with the summon spirits--except for Origin, who was sealed by Kratos' mana. The only way for Origin to be released was for Kratos to die.
Mithos, along with Yuan and Kratos, created Cruxis, the organization that would rule over the worlds of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla for the next four thousand years. Using the Cruxis Crystals, they were able to be transformed into angels. They became three of the four Seraphim of Cruxis--Martel being the fourth, despite being within the Great Seed. Mithos established the Journey of Regeneration, a journey which required the sacrifice of a "Chosen of Mana," to make sure that neither world would die from mana shortage. Along with this came the Church of Martel and the Legend of Mithos the hero. Mithos also took on the alias of "Yggdrasill," along with an adult form, so he could be a more fitting leader of his organization. A group known as the Desians was also established. The Desians were meant to wreak havoc on the declining world, ensuring that whoever the Chosen was at the time did not back down from his or her duty.
As time went on, Mithos's plans became more and more twisted. Those of the Mana Lineage who became Chosens soon became possible vessels for Martel's consciousness. He also began his plans to bring forth the "Age of Lifeless Beings," which would use the Cruxis Crystals to completely eliminate the differences of race. Mithos had misinterpreted Martel's wish for a happy world without discrimination as a wish to cause everyone to become the same, which in Mithos's mind would rid the world of discrimination. Unknown to him, Mithos' companion Yuan had, at some point, began a resistence group known as the Renegades, to make sure Mithos' plans did not succeed.
At one point, Kratos had also turned against Mithos, falling in love with a former prisoner of the Desians named Anna, who was also part of the "Angelus Project," which was a project dedicated to creating a Cruxis Crystal within a human host. The two had a child named Lloyd Irving. However, three years after Lloyd was born, Kratos was forced to kill Anna after her exsphere, a lower version of Cruxis Crystal, was removed and caused her to become a monster. Kratos lost the will to live, as he also thought Lloyd had died as well, and was taken back to Cruxis. Years later, Mithos ordered Kratos to ensure that the newest Chosen, Colette Brunel of Sylvarant, succeeded in her journey to regenerate the world, which would cause her to become a suitable host for Martel's consciousness. When Kratos did so, he discovered that Lloyd was still alive. Whether Mithos himself knew that Lloyd had survived the entire time is unknown. Somewhere between the time Kratos returned to Cruxis and the beginning of Colette's journey, Cruxis convinced Zelos Wilder, the Chosen of Tethe'alla, to become their spy.
After Colette lost her heart and memories, Lloyd and his friends battled against the angel Remiel, and after that, Kratos (who had revealed himself to be a member of Cruxis.) Mithos, in his "Yggdrasill" form, showed himself to them, easily defeating them in battle. However, the Renegades showed up and saved Lloyd's party, including the soulless Colette.
Later on, after Colette's soul is restored and a town in Tethe'alla known as Ozette is destroyed by Cruxis, Mithos joins Lloyd's party in his child form. He quickly becomes close to Genis Sage, another half-elf and the only friend Mithos has ever had who was close to his age. Mithos then accompanies the party, eventually going with them to Sylvarant. During the time he spends with them, Mithos began to wonder if what he is doing is wrong, something he hasn't done since Martel's death. He slowly became conflicted as he gained closer bonds with everyone, specifically Lloyd, Genis, and Genis's older sister Raine.
Despite being left behind while Lloyd and the others infiltrated the Remote Island Human Ranch, he saves them from being killed after Genis uses the panpipes that Mithos gave him. Shortly after this, he is taken back to Tethe'alla, where he stayed with Altessa, a dwarf, and Tabatha, an android created by Altessa and was originally meant to host Martel's consciousness. However, Martel's consciousness had rejected Tabatha. When Sheena Fujibayashi, a companion of Lloyd's, created pacts with all the summon spirits of Tethe'alla and Sylvarant and caused the Kharlan Tree to go out of control, Mithos saved Tabatha from being crushed by a rock that was falling toward her due to an earthquake that occurred in Tethe'alla due to the Kharlan Tree's state. Despite saving her, Mithos is injured from doing so.
Later on, Mithos confronts Lloyd and the others in his "Yggdrasill" form at the Tower of Salvation, where he tells Lloyd that what he's trying to do for Colette is exactly the same as what Mithos himself is trying to do for Martel. Lloyd refuses to waver, however, and Mithos battles them. Afterward, Genis attacks Mithos, prompting Pronyma, the only remaining Desian Grand Five Cardnals, to attack Genis. Mithos takes the blow for Genis, saving his life. However, when he leaves with Pronyma, he drops his panpipes, which Genis had returned to him earlier.
That night, everyone returned to Altessa's in order to create the Rune Crest necessary to cure Colette's Chronic Angelus Crystallus Inofficium, a rare angelic disease that had been caused by her Cruxis Crystal. Genis questioned Mithos, asking him if they were really friends, to which Mithos says that they are. He falls silent after Genis tells him he trusts him.
Later on in the night, after Yuan tries to use Lloyd to force Kratos to release Origin's seal, Mithos reveals himself as Yggdrasill, telling Yuan that he would kill him if he didn't think Martel would never forgive him. When confronted by Genis, Mithos simply tells him that he shouldn't have trusted Mithos, that Mithos never trusted Genis to begin with. Tabatha then recalled how Mithos had saved her, prompting Mithos to attack her, disgusted at her similarity to Martel. He then left with Pronyma and Kratos, who had been knocked unconscious while protecting Lloyd from an attack by Yuan.
When the party next saw Mithos, he was using transferring Martel's consciousness into Colette's body after the party had been betrayed by Zelos and Colette captured. Although the transfer had succeeded, Martel scolded her brother, disappointed and upset with all that Mithos has done. Begging him to stop the creation of his Age of Lifeless Beings and return to the person he was causes Mithos to see this as the greatest betrayal he could ever face, driving him to complete insanity. After Colette is given a rune crest and Martel's consciousness is returned to the Great Seed, Mithos once again misinterprets what Martel has said to him, believing her words that perhaps the world would have been better if the elves had not come from Derris-Kharlan as a wish to return to Derris-Kharlan. Mithos then began to take the Great Seed to Derris Kharlan with him, where he could have a world all to Martel and himself. This causes Lloyd and the others to attempt to stop him, because the Great Seed leaving the two worlds would cause them to die. Mithos then changes into his adult form and prepares to battle them...
[Personality]
Mithos was once a true idealist. He wished for peace between all different types of people and truly believed in the good that could be found in the world. He was a kind boy who was somewhat shy, though he wouldn't pass up a chance to tease Yuan, especially if it involved the fact that he wouldn't admit how he felt about Martel. However, once Martel died, Mithos' personality drastically changed. While he still believed he was doing what was best for the world, he became a ruthless leader, determined to do anything to make sure his goals were accomplished and perfectly willing to destroy anything that stands in his way.
He has a deep-rooted hatred for both humans and elves alike, as their hatred of half-elves was the very reason that he and Martel faced so much difficulty, and eventually became the cause of Martel's death. He has become weakhearted from all the hatred that had been thrown at him and Martel, and as a result meets it with similar contempt. It is because of this that Mithos is a hypocrite--he wishes for the discrimination of half-elves to end, but refers to the other races (humans especially) as dogs, seeing them as nothing more than dirt under his feet.
The mention of Martel, especially in a negative light, is a quick way to enrage Mithos. There is no other person in his world that he loves and cares about more than Martel, and if one insults her, then they better be prepared to find a way to escape Mithos's wrath. Anyone accusing Mithos of going against what Martel would have wanted will also find themselves at the mercy of with wrath.
Mithos also appears to be a good actor, as he is able to act in a way similar to how he did back when he was traveling with Martel, Kratos and Yuan. While with Lloyd and the others, he acts shy and withdrawn, but very kind and willing to help out. It is arguable that Mithos's actions were geniune at some point, as he did gain an internal conflict over what he was doing as he became closer to everyone. He is also very much afraid of rejection and of being alone, as evident in an optional z-skit where Mithos asks Genis not to betray him.
After his true identity is revealed and Martel rejects him, Mithos is thrown over the edge completely. He refuses to believe that Martel would reject him or that he had betrayed her in any way. He also refuses to believe that he ever cared about Lloyd, Genis or any of the others. This is most likely to protect himself. If he doesn't believe he has betrayed Martel, then he can continue to believe that what he is doing is correct. If he convinces himself that none of Lloyd's group were ever his friends, he can keep himself from feeling pain, rejection and betrayal from them refusing to give in to his ideals. At Somarium especially, he will be in a constant state of denial. He truly believes he is correct in everything he has done and wants to do and that in order to save the world everyone must become the same. He cannot be convinced to believe otherwise.
Once he realizes he doesn't have his powers in Somarium, Mithos will attempt to distance himself from everyone and try to use the facade he had with Lloyd's group when forced into situations that require it. However, due to his dwindling sanity, it will prove to be more difficult than it once was. He will try to, however, in order to ensure that he is able to return to Martel.
[Abilities] As a Seraph of Cruxis, Mithos has many different abilities. He is able to use many devastating magic and angelic based attacks, able to take out complete towns, if not even more than that. He is able to teleport, which he uses to his advantage while evading enemies. While his physical aging process has completely halted due to his Cruxis Crystal, he is also able to change his form, as evident that he can switch between his child and adult forms at will. As of all of Cruxis' four Seraphim (as well as Chosens such as Zelos Wilder and Colette Brunel), Mithos has "angel" wings, though they appear to be more faerie-like in appearance than truly angelic. He is able to fly with these wings. Mithos is a very skilled swordsman, due to his years of training from his companion and teacher, Kratos Aurion. At Somarium, all abilities except for his swordsmanship will be stripped from him.
[Other important stuff] This Mithos is taken from the scenario in which Zelos survives. If that's not all right due to the Zelos in the RPG not being from that scenario, please tell me and I'll be willing to change that.
[Sample post]
[First Person]
1) What do you think of your home world?: That filthy place? It's beyond redemption. Despite what Kratos's son and his friends think, this world will never change on its own. Discrimination will continue, and no one will ever learn any better. Despair and death caused by petty hatred will only continue. Why don't they see that my Age of Lifeless Beings would be better? No matter, they will soon learn. I won't let them stand in my way, nor will I allow anyone else to.
2) If you could go back home, would you? Why or why not?: Of course I would. Martel needs me, and we are so close to being happy together in a world of our own. The sooner I leave this disgusting place, the better.
3) Would you consider yourself a hero or a villain? Why? Neither is an option as well, but still tell why.: Do you really think that this is a matter of good and evil? Heroism and villainy? How pathetic. I am doing what is best for the world, even if no one else sees it. If that makes me a villain in the eyes of those fools, so be it.
4) Your country is in the middle of a war. What do you think of it? Do you support it or try to solve it yourself by going on an epic quest? Explain.: I once tried to save the world from a great war, and look how they repaid our efforts. They killed Martel, who had done nothing to them. They killed her just because of what she was born as. That is why my Age of Lifeless Beings is necessary. If no one is different, then such tragedies will cease to occur...
5) Would you consider yourself a well traveled person? If so, what are some of your favorite places? If not, would you want to travel or is there some place you want to go?: Everything there is to see on Tethe'alla, Sylvarant and Derris-Kharlan, I have seen. After all, I am essentially the ruler of the two worlds. However, my favorite place is no concern of yours, wretch.
6) You are suddenly told you are the child of an ancient prophecy to save the world. How do you feel? Will you embark on your journey? Or would you rather shove it onto someone else and run away? Explain.: Ahaha... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! There is no true prophecy to save the world, just like there is no true Goddess. If there were a true prophecy to save the world, would it not have been saved already? No, the world cannot be saved by any means other than causing everyone to become the same.
[Third Person]
He despised them.
As they readied themselves to fight against him, all Mithos could think of was how much he despised Kratos's son and his pathetic friends, and the words they were daring to speak. What did they hope to accomplish by going against him? The world had not changed in the past four thousand years, and it would not change even if they managed to defeat him. However, Mithos would not allow that. He was close, so close to finally being with Martel again. Even if he had to bring down his friends--
No, they weren't his friends. They were never his friends. He had infiltrated them to gain their trust, learn what he needed to about them and then ultimately betray them. There was nothing more to it. He didn't feel friendship toward them, any of them. They stood between him and Martel, and he would not allow it. The nerve they had, standing in his way while telling him that he was wrong for what he wished to do.
None of them understood. None of them had been there when Martel was murdered by... by that disgusting human. Mithos was not wrong, he knew that. What right did they have, telling him that he was? Didn't they want the same thing as him, to save this forsaken world? What they didn't understand is that humanity was rotten, and how could they? Many of them were human. Many of them shared the blood of the ignorant and pathetic creatures that had caused so much devastation in the past.
It didn't matter now. If they were to deny his Age of Lifeless Beings, then he would simply live on Derris-Kharlan with Martel. That's how it should have been in the first place. Yes...
"I won't let you stand in my way!" he turned, glaring at them. His form changed, growing taller and more adult in appearance. He would bring them down. No one would come between him and Martel ever again...
"I will kill you all!"
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I was enabled by Lloyd's player, and because Mithos is fun to play.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] The one that causes characters like Mithos to have their powers downgraded... fun.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] I've heard of it a few times before Lloyd's player enabled me to apply as Mithos, though I don't remember where I first heard of it.
[Any questions?] Nope, unless I can ask for some pudding.
