Bad furry writing

Part of a book blurb:

Sheath Moondawn is your average gay wolf boy. All his life he thought he would stay that way, average, until the day he learned of his true destiny. Now he has the fate of the entire universe on his shoulders, and to top it all off, the love of his life, Felix Adawnte has proclaimed his love for him!

Dude's name is Foreskin! XD

The problem you mentioned with the furry book is that the author obviously can't see the world through any eyes but his own, so the main character reacts the way the author would. And his antagonists are very likely to be wooden caricatures.

"The problem I run into with a lot of furry-specific writing is the books with interesting ideas are usually crippled by bad technical writing, and the ones with good prose are usually really boring."

That seems to be the case with all sorts of independent or niche writing. I think English majors get the ability to tell an engaging story beaten out of them with bullshit about "conflict" and "theme," and good storytellers ignore the practical side of writing along with the academic nonsense.

Gotta agree here. The author sees the world exactly as the main character does, so there is no need for a reader at all.

Seriously? That blurb not only is a blatant self-insertion (heh heh, "Sheath") story, but it tells you pretty much the entire plot, minus niggling details like "what is his 'true' destiny?". It's boring, and I can't see how his twoo wuv Felix declaring his undying servitude---errr, affection is a bad thing.

And "the fate of the *universe*"? Really? The entire universe? Hoo-boy.

An A+ quality post =D

That second blurb...why would I want to read about that guy? He sounds like the title character in Good DInosaur; I have zero interest in that character for the same reason, a boring milquetoast who runs around being frightened of everything.

Seems there were no proofreaders at all.

Truly maximum Mary Sue prose.
