There were actually two other CDs I got that I didn't mention: Verve Remixed 4, and "We All Love Ella: Celebrating the First Lady of Song." It's a compilation of people covering songs Ella made famous. My favorite is k.d. lang singing "Angel Eyes."

I've been a Steve Earle fan for years. I plan on getting "Coppersnake Road" again next payday since there's a new remastered and expanded edition out now. Also, you should check out Justin Townes Earle. Not just because he's Steve Earle's son, but because it's a great album.

I just heard a Booker T. interview on NPR a couple weeks ago. What an amazing career that guy has had.

stochasticjack heard that NPR interview, too. That's what got him to recommend it to me. It's pretty fascinating. His backing band is the Drive-By Truckers which is a classic southern-rock 3-guitar band. Plus Neil Young on guitar. Plus Booker T. plays guitar on several of the tracks. So there are as many as five distinct guitar tracks on several songs. There's a lot to listen to.
