an age-old problem.

an old flame of mine wrote to me today, saying his wife had a dream in which they were living in a hotel, but he woudl only talk to me or play the trombone, so she took a shower, but his hair, the texture of spaghetti, clogged the pipes.

this is what people do. he and i are similar, they are different. i see his art, she sees his flaws. but at the end of the day, she probably appreciates him more, because you tend to understimate the value of attributes that you have yourself, or you fall into patterns of competition.

personally, i prefer lack of understanding to competition or lack of respect. of course, there is a middle way. i think if you find someone who appreciates the general personality traits you have, the personality that manifests most maturely in your work, a partner need not understand the specific work in order to understand both the gist of it and the things that make you what you are.

So, I tend to write here only at night after a few drinks. If I recall, I put you on to that whole Keirsey business. I could be wrong though as I tend to romanticize my memories in my favor. It's funny that you should point me to that tale. The professor of classics who keeps inviting me for dinner is named, Galatea. Too bad she is not 20-25 years younger. Someone schooled in mythology can understand much without getting into the details. Of course that in itself could be problematic ( ... )
