G-Free

And while I'm ranting, here's an interesting article I read about gluten-free diets:The mere fact that someone who cuts out gluten feels better doesn't mean that he has an autoimmune disease or a wheat allergy or some other medical condition.

Interesting.

I'm curious, is this rant in response to my post of an hour ago about going gluten free for my Celiac disease?

Nope. Just read the article on Slate. And my post isn't really a rant - the recent popularity of gluten-free diets doesn't anger or offend me. I'm just skeptical about the fact that everyone who tries a gluten-free diet ends up diagnosed with Celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. I never hear anyone say "I tried going gluten-free and man did I feel worse!" It makes me want to figure out how to do a single-blind gluten-free diet.

*laughter* Talk to krchicken! She tried going gluten free and felt worse.

Gluten sensitivity is a much harder one to pin down, but with Celiac disease, there are very reliable tests.

(Disclaimer: I didn't read any of the links you posted.) I can attest to how true your digestive system's adaptations are. After eating a healthy, lower-fat diet for a while, Ben and I both get massive indigestion if we eat at McDonald's (and let's not even mention Taco Bell).

Funny random thing about gluten-free diets. My sister had major stomach pain problems. She went on a gluten-free diet and claimed to feel better. Turns out she had ovarian cysts and the abdominal pain was caused by bursting cysts releasing toxins into her abdominal cavity. The gluten-free diet just coincidentally happened during a time period when she didn't have any cysts.
