A couple of people have expressed a desire for a third option, like "Perfectly fine decorating technique if executed well." My goal is to get a gut reaction check; what's the first thing you think when you hear "accent wall"? "Yay" or "Nay"?

I need to paint the kitchen, and I don't want to pull out the refrigerator or stove, so accent walls it is!

Sorry, but whenever I see one it reminds my of my high school (where every single classroom had a very garish accent wall).

When I hear the words "accent wall", I think, "Oh please don't make me paint!"

I don't imagine ever doing them myself, but they look fine in other people's houses.

I think, "What the hell is an accent wall." And then I read the comments. And then I sort of shrug and think it depends on what else is going on in the relevant room.
