Some people seem to believe that knowing the science behind the nature you're looking at will somehow detract from the esthetic appreciation of nature. Setting stopping points on hikes so that slow ones can catch up has always worked so well for me and my groups, I'm astounded that everyone with a youth group doesn't do it! It just seems like common sense to me.
