We finally got around to watching Star Trek, on Christmas. Except for a few quibbles, I thought it was a brilliant movie, the way they both honored their legacy and created a whole new universe in which to boldly go

There are apparently many ST novels that bridge the stories, but I don't know where to start reading.

There is a lot of fan-fiction. Some of it good, some is lousy. There's a whole separate section in many book stores.
