That would be an interesting exercise - now that we're old and fogey, go through the list of folks you know who would make up the "Dream Class". Not necessarily the instructor, or even the topic; but that if you could pick like an old schoolyard football team who would "be in" your favorite class - who would it be. A mix of people who are smarter than you in subjects to help balance out areas, inquisitive/creative thinker types...would be an interesting approach.
Certainly would pick you. Though I'm not sure between us the instructor could get a word in edge-wise. =)
Cherryh's treatment of elves is one of my favorites. They aren't just people with pointy ears and english accents. They are truly alien in ways which ought to be perfectly natural for an extra-dimensional being, with just enough humanity to make them relatable.
Still I do like her SF best. I wish for more Merchanter/Maziani stuff.
