A few of you may recall when, ages ago, I mentioned yet another book from my childhood that I wanted. I had this book at around 7 years old in 1969, and loved it (yeah, I was an early reader). It was one of those books that I read and reread constantly. It was strange. The illustrations were surreal, as was the content. The book was The Happy ( Read more... )

I'm pushing the "love" button on this post. :)

You should enter LJ Idol next year. You write so well, and it's fun!

Aww, thanks hon. I disappeared for a bit - recently diagnosed with Lupus/? Rheumatoid arthritis, so had some bad months. You know what being in a "pain fog" is like. You yourself are writing more lately! I mean real writing, not just "hey, how are you guys" stuff. Keep it up. I like reading it.

P.S. Maybe the reason I liked that book so as a child is that I always got the importance of the idea of "seeing what happens next." When you boil it down, isn't that life in a nutshell? Just to see what happens next.

Yeah, you know, I think maybe you just kind of start out that way if you're lucky.

I hope that your health is in a good spot now. You've been missed.

If your strange child-self and my strange child-self hadn't been separated by an ocean and quite a few years, I think they'd have got on well - this sounds like a book I'd have loved.

Oooooooh. Your trippy childhood book beats the pants off my trippy childhood book (Oh the Thinks You Can Think by Dr. Seuss). And that one wasn`t bad.

As I never seem to get birthday messages correct I'll take this route to wish you a really Happy Birthday. Tomorrow is it?

I've really missed you but now I know why I miss you even more. Do hope that things are well on the way to improvement.

I remember that once, long ago, you wrote that you'd never read a book by a New Zealand author. Is that still the case? I have a very good one here that I'd be delighted to send you if you'd like to pm me your address. (I'm Sherlockfan in BC)
