I see everybody doin' these "50 book challenges" and all, and obviously it's just a tool to trick oneself into reading more and that's awesome, but at the same time I wonder what kind of subtle effects it has on your reading choices. Like, if Christmas is creeping up and you find yourself falling short, do you run out and get a bunch of graphic ( Read more... )

#10 - oh man, I've picked up A Passage to India with every intention of reading it so many times! But I always get distracted. Is it good? But, like, actually?

#16 - My heart is warmed; let's remember to talk about it over beers.

#23 - I just started Volume 6! The end of this beautiful, magical journey is in sight! Almost time to start over again. (and again and again)

#50 - I just read this too! I liked it.

10 - I give it five stars. I guess it depends on your tolerance for painfully white mystic freakouts, though.

16 - righto

23 - I could never spend that long in Proust's twisted bourgeois world. Talented guy, though.

48 - I love how it's its own Wikipedia. I know you done read The Magus, but you should check The Collector if you hain't yet. It's so gross.

I heart #48, but the movie is so lame it almost made me like the book less. It's like they got all mixed up and used the plot of the French Lieutenant's Woman but the theme of Daniel Martin. Hate that guy. And they did the same thing they did with the movie of Tristam Shandy where they think that the only way people can relate to an olde story is by throwing in another narrative layer with a bunch of self-centered modern actors. Actors!
