I used to do quite a lot of bitching about my roommate (whom I shall call A from now on) and his psycho girlfriend, but now that I got to know him better, I feel rather sorry for all my negative comments. (The girlfriend is still a psycho, but now that she's back in America, it's no longer my problem ( Read more... )

Wow, you're getting quite a language practice (and it can be brain-deadening. I once stayed a couple of days with a German friend, and we spoke in English - our language in common; but a couple of times both her and me just switched to our own languages somehow and it took a minute to realize that the other person doesn't understand).

Speaking more than one language can be really confusing sometimes. My biggest trouble is switching between Japanese and French. The moment my mind is thinking in Japanese, I no longer understand a single word of French spoken to me. It's quite fascinating actually. :)

So switching between Japanese and English is not such a problem? How interesting.

It's because those languages are much closer related in my head. I watch Zuka shows in Japanese and then talk about them in English. That makes switching easier. Also, I know English much better than French.

Eight languages. *jaw hits the floor* You are some kind of superhuman, seriously!

They all sound really nice, glad you like who you're living with and you all get along okay now. :)

It sounds a lot more impressive than it is. I was just lucky to grow up in a rather multilingual environment and I was always fascinated by foreign languages.

I am really relieved we all get on well now. It wasn't a given, as everyone has such different interests and backgrounds, but in the end that actually made living together much more interesting. :)
