Thoughts on issue one of Kick-Ass Vol. 2

Nov 09, 2010 08:44

Since the issue's been out for a while now, I thought I'd ask people what they think of the first issue of Balls to the Wall.

Spoilers within. )

I thought it was Dave's father in the coma -- given the apartment exploding and all, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think he was caught in the blast.

That's what I kind of thought too, but the hair makes me think it was someone younger.

I think it was sometime last month. I heard people tweeting about it then, but I only just got mine recently.

I thought it was... ok. It's basically how I feel about the first volume as well, though. I'm not Mark Millar's biggest fan. His stories can usually be quite flat. This first issue is no different from the other dubious material he has been putting out *cough*Nemesis*cough*.

I'm not dissing Kick-Ass. I adored the movie and I adore the characters. I just have an issue with Mark Millar, is all. : )

I actually enjoy Nemesis in a weird way, mostly because it's this crazy cinematic nihilism, but some of his stuff has been an acquired taste for me. It took me about a week to stop hating Wanted.

It's definitely an acquired taste.

I enjoyed it, but I'm admittedly (much) more of a fan of the movie than the comic.

I'm not sure how I feel about the end of it. I'm also someone hoping they don't spend too much time on a bunch of new characters.

I wonder how Millar's writing of the comic has been affected by the movie. I'd be very curious to get a legit, honest answer from him.

Me too, for sure! It will be interesting as the issues continue to come out and we get deeper into the story - my guess is some things may come across as movie inspired.

Where on earth did you guys get this?

I thought it was only available in the UK?

I got mine at Floating World Comics in Portland, Ore., but you should be able to find it at other comic book stores. Or you can order it online.

Are you thinking of the new comic magazine Millar just launched? It's called Clint, and it's only in England.

Oh, thanks for the link! I've been meaning to chase that up for a while.

Yeah, that must be the one I was thinking of :)

Just wanna add you can find CLiNT at any Barnes & Noble. I've seen it everywhere here in Texas. : ) I didn't actually get it, since it doesn't have the whole first issue in it, but if anyone wants to get it for collecting or whatever... it's out there.
