Thanks you. You would not believe the amount of reading I did for this -- I could probably write a sequel *right now* where Roanoke has to deal with the Jamestown colonists stirring up trouble with the Powhatan in 1608.

...And I'm sorry it's taken me this long to write out a real review other than "this is awesome." *G* Which it is, but in addition...
I love the sheer *elegance* of your writing: the Elizabethan language you've employed so effortlessly here. I love the sheer amount of detail you've put into their day to day lives as pioneers. And their struggles individually and as a group---Pietro as the outsider; Werner, Scott as a fledgling leader trying to get everybody to work together, dammit.
This was a delight to read, and if you do plan to write more in this verse---I cannot wait. =D

Remembering not to use gerunds was the tricky part. And the complete lack of female names for the Coastal Algonquin groups that would have been at Roanoke.
I'm looking for references on the Tuscarora before the 1720s and the Cherokee -- they were the other big ethnic groups in North Carolina, and the Cherokee would have been in the mountains (mountains = coal and copper)
I can well imagine! You did a very good job, and everyone comes across very well. Actually, I have a minor quibble: in this time period, no one would say "Arabia", I fear. It would be "Araby" instead.

That said, I think I'll keep writing it; there's a lot of fascinating holes in the canon to fill up.
