Ahhhhh, I so want to read that Ai Yazawa paper! I hope that I get a chance to write on some of this stuff myself. Right now I feel like I should be concentrating on my medieval, but it calls to me. :/ Why can't I have two interests which are a little less divergent? Ha. Anyway, Ai Yazawa's take on shojo is really interesting, and I'm all excited at the idea of somebody writing on it. I've been throwing around ideas about the perception of the body in FMA, Lain, and Eva for a couple of months, but have yet to do anything substantial on it.

Bizarrely, somebody posted to a community I'm on today, wondering if people thought it was a bad idea to do graduate work on Harry Potter. I guess they thought they wouldn't be taken seriously in their career if they did work on a less-than-conventional/non-canon topic. I was like what? What decade is this? I honestly find it hard to believe that people, at this point in time, would look down their nose at work on "pop culture" topics -- as long as they were approached with seriousness.
