Capitalism relies on a cyclical process of industrial productivity and decadent consumerism. There is a benign idea at the core that stipulates that someone produces a good and charges for the raw materials, expense and labor that went into the manufacture of said good. But the ideal of capitalism is to derive profits with zero cost. The approximation of this goal is seen in the quest for ever greater efficiencies, and the embodiment of this ideal is most clearly expressed in the role of speculators. But there is a peak in any society where the diffusion of wealth renders it an inefficient, costly producer, transforming it into a society predominantly of consumers who leverage said wealth to establish spheres of influence in impoverish nations, maneuvering them into the service of production. The idea of a flat, globalized world, a world in which everyone eventually reaches equilibrium of wealth is nonsense. It is, at the end of the day, inefficient.
