I think you are beginning to see why Jack felt it necessary to rush to Blaxton's aid before Teague found him with the Code. Luckily for Blaxton, Teague seems to have mellowed with age. Our young Jack -- not so lucky...read on! *g*

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What parent hasn't taken unending glee at catching their child in "the big fib?" I guess when you're on the receiving end of things, it's not such a great moment.
Those of us that had the same kind of parent can really identify with Jack's terrors... and his resourcefulness. You caught those shattering moments with wrenching eloquence.
I do hope that was more a rhetorical statement about having the 'same kind of parent' *shudders* I wouldn't wish the old goat's style on any kid. Right frightening, that.
Jack has a way of making things more complicated than they need to be. It does serve him well enough, but every so often I wonder what his life would have been like had he just told the truth and be done with it.
Well, let's just say I'm familiar with the concept of hitting a kid, just to get their attention.
Yah, to culture, in more ways than one. It would be a very difficult one to culture, given his prospects of what the responses might be. It's far easier to tell someone what they want to hear, rather than face the consequences of telling them what they don't want to hear.
