I loved the acting and cinematography in Shutter Island but couldn't care less for the predictable twist and the myriads of dream sequences and flashbacks annoyed me. It left me with a feeling of utter disappointment. In the end I just thought "I'd rather have watched a straight Leonardo-battles-doctors-doing-Nazi-experiments-flick."
I concur. The dream sequences were indeed way too much. The film could totally have done without them. But they weren't enough to put me off. As I said, the plot twist may have been used before many times (and in better/cooler ways, i.e. Fight Club) but it caught me by surprise. Did you really predict that while watching it, I mean, before it was hinted? In the end I just thought "I'd rather have watched a straight Leonardo-battles-doctors-doing-Nazi-experiments-flick." Really? That would have been even more predictable than the route they went with, in my opinion.
You're so right! Tamar is... wow! Come to think of it, I should have put him in my Celebs Battle :) Hilarious check-list, by the way :D

Maybe I watched too many twisty thrillers in this decade cause I actually think that would have been more unpredictable. Putting a twist on your thriller has become such a cliche that I would have been more surprised if for once such a film would have told a straight story. The Holocaust memories just went nowhere. And I had the feeling most people in my screening predicted the ending about halfway through. It totally reminded me of Identity. But the actors were all magnificent.
Awww... I'm so pumped you hearted it as well!!! I didn't know you had seen it. Did you review it? Have I... *shudders*... Have I *missed* your review?! Also glad to know I wasn't the only tense one :D Isn't it? Sooo powerful indeed. Totally agree with the double-meaning it casted! And the brilliance that it entitled. So, what did you think? Personally, I think he didn't regress to Teddy. He (Andrew) *chose* the lobotomy route.
