Another year, another 100 films challenge!!! And my laziness *already* took the best of me, hence this late, late first post of the challenge. Oh, well... Let's get to what really matters, shall we? The films! 'Cause at least they get your mind, well, my mind, off of this tragedy that has taken the country by storm. R.I.P. all those people from Rio ( Read more... )

Bride Wars is one of the worst chick flicks I know (and I have a high tolerance for chick flicks). Worst thing about it is the totally-out-of-the blue-romance between Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson's brother (I think?).

And yes, I also was totally disappointed upon meeting the tall dark stranger. Weak Woody :(

I've never even heard of Barry Munday. Will look for it now.

I thought the testimonials were the weakest parts of Amours Imaginaires. The whole film was deliberately tongue-in-cheek and ridiculously over-the-top and the testimonials were too realistic (cause they were real ones, I guess). Those two parts clashed.

I can't say I disagree. It's awful. The out-of-the-blue romance is easily on the top 5 abysmal things about the film. And there are lots to choose from.

Yeah, it was a bummer :( The "tall dark stranger" was in fact a short bald dude.

I encourage that. Like I said to my sister: "Picture Knocked Up with more class and less crass -- plus a better, more talented and sympathetic cast (*cough* Heigl *cough*) -- and you'll get Barry Munday".

I didn't see it as "tongue-in-cheek and ridiculously over-the-top". I think the worst thing about it is that it was actually trying and meaning to be serious and artsy (besides pretentious and self-indulgent). The testimonials were a breath of fresh air, and the only thing that kept me from hating the film completely.

I don't see that. At all. Just take a look at the last scene where the two friends meet yet another handsome at the party (played by Louis Garrel of all people) - this is not a serious movie. It's not an overt parody, of course, but I don't see the movie taking the characters seriously at all.

The "tall dark stranger" was in fact a short bald dude.

LOL.

Well, you shan't be disappointed. It's certainly remarkable. Yeah, I don't think it's officially released here in Brazil either. I think I've heard something about early February. But the friend I mentioned above managed to score us tickets for an early screening, which was very much appreciated. Oh, L'Arnacoeur was a big hit in France? I had no idea. Like I said, I didn't find anything out of the ordinary for a rom-com in it. Vanessa's work wasn't familiar to me. If I'm not mistaken that was the first film I watched with her in it, but I thought she was ok. *Love* her gap though; and that she actually keeps it. I have one myself (granted not as wide as hers) and I've been refusing to close it for many, many years. I find gaps full of character. So, as sympathy goes she gets mine :D

You won't regret it. It truly resonated with me, and I think it's the type of subject that resonates within most.

Not as sorry as I am. I so wanted to love it :(
