It's always surprising for me to see movies from my home country mentioned on foreign blogs. It really shouldn't be, but it still is though it's a nice surprise.

Anyway, I wanted to add to your Blue Valentine-thoughts that the end credits were the prettiest I've seen in years.

And yes, I also will watch anything for Justin Kirk. How do you like "Puccini for Beginners"?

As for I Spit On Your Grave, I will always only think about this discussion I read last Summer:
Part 1 http://www.pajiba.com/trade_news/the-reprehensible-sexualization-of-rape-i-spit-on-your-grave-remake-poster-.php
Part 2 http://www.pajiba.com/trade_news/rape-vs-revenge-in-re-the-i-spit-on-your-grave-poster.php

I completely understand the feeling, since I often feel the same. Anyhow, it is an amazing film. Did you like it?

Can't disagree on that :)

Oh, I don't think I've watched that one. Must look for it. Thanks!

Well, I read the first article and some of the second and I gotta say that people tend to overreact a tad sometimes. I mean, I did not see any "sexualization" of rape in the poster. Maybe I'm being naive, but I really didn't. Not in the film either. To me it's unfathomable the idea of any person getting off on seeing a woman being brutally raped. Unless they are truly sick, twisted and altogether disturbed. Like I said, I thought they went a little overboard time-wise with the rape scene, but I ultimately saw the film through the revenge angle. And in my book there is nothing sweeter than watching someone getting retribution, especially when it is oh-so-fair, deserved and justice-filled. Have you watched it?

Nope, haven't watched I Spit On Your Grave, but it's not my genre and I can't stand movie violence. Plus, sexual abuse can be a trigger for me so I probably will never watch it.
I do get some of the complaints about the poster artwork though. It's not so much sexualization of rape, more an objectification of the heroine - we only see her back, a lot of skin and no real face. Since the poster doesn't tell me that she's a rape victim, yes, it comes across a bit skeevy.

Puccini For Beginners is one of my favourite Woody-Allen-pastiches.

Oh, sorry, I didn't know. In that case it's definitely better to stay away from it.
I guess I can see your point, but I think it also has to do with the fact that the leading lady is sexy. It'd be hard to "un-sexy-fy" her. Still they could have put some more clothes on her back, if you kow what I mean.

Oh, will definitely look for it then :)

Yeah, unfortunately, I totally stand by it. Not his best work for sure. But, who knows? Taste is so relative, maybe you'll dig it. Let me know what you think once you watch it ;)
Oh, I certainly KNOW you will, ma'am ;D
