So I was reading my journal this morning ("write things down when I read my Bible" journal) and noticed how sporadic my reading has been over the past year. I have times when I read the Bible every day and I start to learn more and more about God, then something happens and I stop reading every day and my mind just gets so foggy ( Read more... )

I know how you feel. When I read all my old LJ entries (back when I was doing daily devotionals), I am amazed by how far I've come... in the WRONG direction! I used to be so in touch with God through his Word, and now, like you say, my mind is foggy. :( Sometime, Tim and I want to start a devotional together. The longer I wait to get back into it, the harder it is to make myself do it.

I was reading "Ordinary Women Extraordinary God" from Calvary Chapel Senior Pastor's Wives on Tuesday (GREAT BOOK!!!!) and came upon Romans 1:21 "Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. The result was that their minds became dark and confused."
They're minds became foggy... No doubt because they weren't going to the one who gave man the mind to think with in the first place..

It's so easy to do, too.. because there's still Christian music to listen to, an occassional pastor on TV/radio (I thought I was ok by doing this.. yeah, not so much).. but just the simplistic act of opening the Bible and just reading/absorbing does SO much for us.

I'd say go ahead and start reading again today.. Now if you can (or maybe on your lunch break).. But start as soon as possible.. there's always excuses for why not to do it. :)

I felt the same way thats why it was my resolution to read God's word daily. So far, I have missed one night, but out of 24 days thats pretty good! I started from the beginning and man, I need to talk to someone who has a little more insight than I because God seems so "brutal" at times ya know? Especially with all the people Joshua killed! Man I am just like whoa!!!

Yeah, it can be odd to see God in the OT then again in the NT.. but He is the same God (He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow). You can see many glimpses of Jesus in the old testement, that really helps me link the two together.. Plus, you also see over and over again how gracious God was with people.. He gave them MULTIPLE chances to redeem themselves, but they just didn't listen (I can relate to that unfortunately).

I'd suggest talking to your husband (if he doesn't know now, maybe your asking will encourage him to dig deeper so that he can help you understand), pastor, or other people in the church that may know more about the Bible.. Also try using some commentaries (here's one online: http://www.biblegateway.com/resources/commentaries/ and here's some you can listen to on-line http://www.joncourson.com/store/commentaries/commentaries.asp )
