My second child's first-grade teacher: "Yeah, they talk a lot about teaching critical thinking, but they don't like it when the kids start using it on them."

I also have a dog who, immediately after she learned "sit" started very pointedly sitting and then looking meaningfully at us when she was unwilling to leave an interesting-smelling place on a walk.
