This reminds me of my friends who told their older child, who was probably about Charlie's age at the time, that he should not quietly open the car door and leave during the nanosecond they were occupied with something else in the garage, because his little sister might get out too and get hurt. (The argument that HE might get hurt had been dismissed, with prejudice.) So the next time he had the chance, he got out, locked the car door behind him, and felt all was serene. Information is processed, fast, but not always with the results one hopes for.
