I'm sorry about your back problems. My mom has degenerative disk disease. She's had several surgeries, including the one where they remove the disk and build a cage around your spinal column. Of course, she's had it for many years and her surgeries started back in the 80s, when they didn't have the technology they do now. Despite these things, her back is doing well right now and she does many things she used to, such as white water rafting. She can no longer waterski though, not because she's not able but because if she falls wrong she could break the "cage".
Anyhow, it's good that you're not going to have surgery at this point. I've heard that the injections help a lot. Are they thinking of traction? I know my mom was in traction for a while, and it helped with the pain.
