I sincerely believe King Kong should have won (been nominated for) best picture.

ummmm.....not really. don't get me wrong, it was really cool. and I wouldn't have minded if it had been the fifth movie nominated (instead of brokeback). but while the visual effects and art direction were really really cool (which it got nominated for in both categories), the rest of the movie (script, acting, etc.) was kind of mediocre. It was a very well-made junk-food movie.
