Guys, this entry is gigantic! I tried to make it shorter but it resisted me. Especially the pics. Have you tried to narrow down pics from Points? Have you seen all the gorgeousness? Have you seen their little faces?? I can't do it! Points cannot be contained!
So I gave up and split this one into two parts. Here's the first half. Polls will be

When we get past the slashy fun, let’s not miss the real beauty of this relationship, consisting of two guys whose love for each other is so strong that they don’t want to live too far apart. That’s what’s on the screen and, for what it’s worth (even though I like to focus on the BoB characters) that’s what is described in strong terms in accounts of the real Dick Winters.
When I heard "are you offering me a job", I laughed out loud to myself in glee. I heard it as "are you proposing". Because, as you said, that's what it was, really. Not for the slashyness but because Nix was asking Winters to spend his life with him. They could completely lose contact otherwise; offering him a job with the family business in Nix's home town is a pretty good way of keeping him close :-)

Hee!
Have you ever noticed the way he doesn’t say things? Like, to awesome effect? People will say stuff to him, wanting an answer: yes, no, I agree, here’s what I’ll do about that. He doesn’t answer. He continues with his own agenda.
BUT, and here’s the beauty part, he gives them a long pause first. Which says, “I heard you. I respect you. I might not answer your question, but it’s not because you don’t deserve one, I’ve just got a job to do here.” The other very cool thing about it is that, by not speaking, Winters doesn’t commit to anything and doesn’t distract from his mission in the conversation. You might think he just agreed with you. You might feel affirmed. But he didn’t actually say anything!

Harry inspects the silver: “Kitty would love this. How many brides get a wedding present from Hitler? Wanna take half? I can’t carry all this. And whoever comes in here after is gonna take whatever’s not nailed down.”
Winters takes of his helmet and puts some sliver in it. “Well, wouldn’t want that to happen.”
Speirs comes in and reaches between them to take some silver, but Harry removes his hand. “Don’t even think about it.”
This scene cracked me up. I could picture Kitty opening up her present and saying "thanks honey!" while secretly wondering what the f*ck she was supposed to do with 16 knives and 4 forks and 7 spoons. I hope they divided it up more strategically later on, is all I'm sayin' ;-)

Ha. Exactly. Nixon has a PLAN! Which is a perfect move for his character who, as I've been saying all along, is the one who really keeps the relationship alive. He's such a sweetheart and he knows himself well enough to know that he doesn't want to lose Winters.
And Winters clearly feels the same way, he just operates differently.
I'm always saying that I don't like to mix BoB with the stories of the real men, because I do think they should be treated differently. But this seems a good time to hop over the line and give you a quote from the real Winters. In his book, he talks about Nixon leaving Europe (before Winters did). "Nixon departed Joigny (France) the next week, making me about as lonesome as a lovesick sailor who married a Wave on an eight-hour pass." *g* Definitely one of my favorite quotes from the real men.
