That is the lowest bar a person SHOULD be held to! Of course the man who proposed to her, who wooed her, who said he loved her, who HAD EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO BREAK IT OFF WITH HER TOO, should be held to certain ethical standards. There is NO EXCUSE for cheating - it’s really troubling to me that you’re essentially depriving Matthew of any responsibility here, as though it’s Lavinia’s job to make sure he’s not bored, and not, I don’t know, his responsibility not to cheat."

No, it's not her responsibility to make sure her fiancé doesn't cheat. It's her responsibility to take it on board when a man refuses to take her back. Which Matthew did in 2.06. But she didn't let him. She said so explicitly. She is denying him the right and the possibility (physically speaking, as he couldn't walk away) to make his own decisions when she returns and I think that's unacceptable. It

After she stuck with him through a really horrible injury!Sorry, I have to jump in here: no, she didn't. Matthew ushered her to the door in 2x05, but she ran right out of it. She didn't do as Mary advised ("Then you must tell him again!") she up and left -- complaining the entire way, but she still did it. And then she was SUMMONED back by Cora, who freaked out for some unknown reason about having no grandchildren, even though she has two other daughters (though I get it was probably due to Mary's scandal and wanting her settled
