Master list of K/S Favorites - Vids & Online fiction

Sep 04, 2009 23:52

**Last updated January 10, 2011**

Livejournal informs me this list is now too long, so I've split it into 2; in this part you'll find the K/S vids and online fiction; zine, art and Shatnoy will be in another one. Due to mysterious computer settings updating on LJ is very problematic; for a more up-to-date version of my lists, please see my blog

This list of favorites is a constant work in progress that will be updated and expanded on a regular basis. I have read/seen many more very good K/S works but here I'm only listing those that compelled me the most for one reason or another, the ones I can re-read or rewatch without tiring and marveling every time at how brilliant they are. Of course this is only my humble opinion; I have a fondness for first time stories, long buildups, emotional intensity and irresistible humor (with a dash of utter cuteness) and my list reflects that heavily. Your mileage may vary. Still, I reacted powerfully to each of those works and I do believe them excellent even on an objective basis, so I'm hoping it will be the same for you :-).

Most of the authors of the vids/stories here have other terrific works in their backlist. Do check them out.

K/S videos

*Fire (Sexy Dance) by ImaginarySanity. Vivid, exhilarating, a song with a thrilling, pulsing beat that makes you want to let go, be carried away by the music and dance all night long. Short clips and rapid editing for maximum punch effect; you can feel the fire beneath Kirk and Spock's calm demeanor, that occasionally peeks through. I can watch this vid again and again and again without tiring. Favorite hot vid.

*You Fill up my senses by Gin1119. Soft and tender, like a breath of fresh air on a spring morning. Favorite feel-good vid.

*I Will Die For You by TGuessca. They truly would die for each other, and have. A haunting song filled with poignant moments of mutual devotion. Favorite angsty vid.

*Kirk & Spock: The Movie by mortmere. An uneventful night watch. Kirk and Spock with too much time on their hands. A mysterious transmission from outer space... TOS meets Reboot and gives birth to TMP!! Hilarious captions, screencaps and music. Favorite funny vid.

The Look of Love by Gin1119. A tribute to Kirk and Spock's oh-so-subtle eyesecks. A love story told in eyebrows, mouth quirks (Spock) and warm, intimate smiles (Kirk).

Closer . "What if they hadn't made it to Vulcan in time?" Manages to makes Star Trek look dark - you gotta see it to believe it. A classic in sepia, more than a million views.

Kirk-Spock 1966-2009 - Unmistakable by Sparringett. 43 years of unmistable love that transcends time and barriers. Great mix of TOS, movie and reboot clips.

Nu!Trek 24 Hours by Azkabanhuntress. Illustrates the clash between Kirk and Spock in the new movie. Great song.

The Scientist (Spock/Uhura) by Flomuk. I can't believe I'm adding this here, but I can't help loving this vid. First there's the beautiful sweet song, and it starts with tiny!Spock talking with his father, radiating as much hurt and confusion as a Vulcan kid can. And the emphasis on Spock's inner torment during the movie, with more flashbacks to his vulnerable younger self, was greatly done. This man so totally needs love...

Sexy Back by Gin1119. The first 20 seconds alone crack me up every time. Irreverent and humorous.

See You Again by Nejipromaster95. A Miley Cyrus song, of all things. Yet it's catchy and gives an cute, irreverent feel to this vid. And after all, Star Trek (and especially K/S) IS full of humour and cuteness *g*.

How Can I Not Love You by Spirksbuttbaby. All in black and white, melancholic and filled with secret, tormented longing.

Imagine Me Without You by ImaginarySanity. A collection of close moments for Kirk and Spock, powered by the compelling song Like You from Evanescence.

We are One by Kradashi. Song with a slow, sultry beat, that underlines the tension of those Reboot!Trek Kirk & Spock moments and their inner turmoil.

All I want for Christmas is you by spookybfi. So cute!! Makes me awwww every time. Plus, the finale shot is awesome :-D

Amok Time: Paraphrase Theater by neekajuice. Captioned cliffs notes parody version of Amok Time, K/S style. ROTFL funny! "I mean... Hooray?" Pottymouth Spock and inappropriate situations galore!

Broke Trek by Zabonka. Probably the best Brokeback Mountain Trek trailer I've seen (although I like this one a lot too, if only for the use of the husky "Jim" elevator scene). Good audio montage, good choice of clips, well done all around.

Pieces by DarlaPr0duction. A reboot vid that feels wonderfully fresh and different! Haunting instrumental music, excellent use of movie dialogue and clips, and superb editing that seems to bombard you with thoughts ans images coming and going in all directions, yet you never lose the main thread.

K/S Online Fanfiction

As morning shows the day (also known as tiny!Spock fic) by jade_dragoness. Reboot, WIP. Fabulous, awesome, blissfully loooong piece (18 chapters now) about Spock being reversed to his 6-year-old self by aliens. To grow back up to his normal age, he has to be made...happy. Yeah, you got that right. So Jim takes on the task to care for tiny!Spock and make him happy. Devastatingly cute yet not cheesy, beautifully written, sensitive and full of humor.

Home by Lanaea. Reboot, WIP on hold. Jim invites Spock to accompagny him while he goes to Earth visit his mother. Over the adventures of these few days, they learn to know and appreciate each other, and it turns into something more... Great writing, long and detailed story (33 chapters so far). A must!

Pacing the Cage by Jenna Hilary Sinclair. TOS novella, one of my absolute favorites in this fandom. The 5-year mission is over and Kirk and Spock have remained close friends. Although Spock yearns for more, he knows his love will never be returned and contents himself with their companionship. But when Kirk gets involved in what seems to be a serious relationship for once, and he himself meets a Vulcan woman who on all counts appears like a perfect potential bondmate, Spock starts thinking he needs to try to move on. Unless Kirk's growing disquiet means something... Beautiful relationship between the two men, first a frienship that shows its closeness through a multitude of little moments, then sometimes a tentative waltz neither man is completely aware of. Strong and well fleshed-out secondary character, and the fic makes a great job of making Kirk and Spock feel REAL as people living on Earth in the 23rd century.

Freely Given by Jenna Hilary Sinclair. TOS novella. Jim, Spock and McCoy must attend celebrations on a planet where the formal greeting is kissing other men on the mouth. McCoy rants and Spock takes it in stride - but being down on the planet and whitnessing the open, unabashed kissing between men, especially with Jim involved, makes the Vulcan see things and his Captain in a new light. Love the premise, great development with terrific characterization.

Mind-Sifter by Shirley Maiewski. TOS novella, non-slash but strong frienship. Jim is kidnapped by Klingons and after being subjected to the mind-sifter, is marrooned in the 1950s where he ends up in a psychiatric facility. Terrific story. An edited version was published in the anthology Star Trek: The New Voyages in 1976; the online version is the original. Honestly, I prefer the book version because it was tighter and played up Spock's role in Jim's recovery and his dedication to finding him. This story should be shot soon as the next Phase II episode.

In Any Universe by Deanna Gray. TOS oneshot. Four months before the end of the 5-year mission, Spock is contemplating going to Gol once the mission's over to purge him of his impossible love for his Captain, and Jim is worried at the idea he might never serve with Spock again. Then an ion storm hits, propelling Spock into the Mirror Universe at the tender mercies of Mirror!Kirk whose own Spock has left him... Very good writing, makes a great job of intertwining universes and showing how they can both mirror and influence each other and provoke epiphanies for all the main characters. Excellent characterization, with cruel yet not completely heartless Mirror!Kirk. Powerful feelings and a moderate dose of angst. Warning for near-rape.

Postmortem by Aconitum-Napellus. TOS, chaptered. Jim, heartbroken, was unable to prevent Spock from being executed for murder on a remote Federation planet. But thankfully, Malkarians didn't know much about Vulcan physiology. When Spock, ill but very much alive, contacts him for help to escape, Jim swears that this time he'll succeed in proving his friend's innocence before it's too late. Great writing, original plot, slow emotional buildup with characters slowly becoming aware of their feelings. Ending a bit disappointing though.

The Prize by Ray Newton. TOS, AU. On an alternate Vulcan, novice warrior Spock finds himself with a young human slave he did not want, named James Kirk. A fair and honorable man, Spock cares for Kirk when he sees how brutally used the slave was by his previous master and slowly realizes Kirk is a man in his own right. Respect and mutual feelings develop between the two, but Kirk can't let go of his dream to be free again. Raw and compelling, a fascinating story of how love changed both men's view of the world. Warning for rape (not between K & S).

Rekindling the Fire by Jenna Hilary Sinclair. TOS novella. Shortly after TMP, Kirk forces Spock to admit his love for him. But he also learns that following his years at Gol, Spock is now disconnected from his physical body and can never express his love in the flesh. They agree to stay apart for a while in order to come to terms with the situation. But on a cold night in a mountain resort when they meet again and their souls are getting closer, V'Ger returns with a vengeance...and will only be appeased in one way. Great Kirk characterization, mature characters, and great UST/UET.

Turning Point & its sequel Full Circle by Killa. TOS, long. Described by its author as a "K/S melodrama". After the end of the 5-year-mission, Kirk brings Spock to New Orleans where he finally opens his heart to him, and they surrender to their mutual passion. But what Jim is willing to offer can't suffice for Spock. He leaves for Gol and Jim gets married, but neither can forget the other. If you're like me you'll read this in one sitting, desperately praying that they do end up together at the end.

And Years Went By, by Keelywolfe. Kirk and McCoy used to have an occasional thing to celebrate McCoy's birthday, but now Jim is involved with Spock. So Bones is drinking alone in his cabin to forget that from now on there won't be any more birthday human comfort moments. Turns out he's wrong.... Kirk/Spock/McCoy threesome, highly erotic with some very interesting charater insight and H-O-T.

The Game by Jesmihr. TOS, oneshot. Around a table one night, Jim, Scotty, Spock and McCoy are playing a game: try to come up with the one sentence they think each of the others would never say. Starts as pure fun, then suddenly turns more serious and introspective toward the end, to great effect. Shows amazing character insight and will make you hoot and awwww and want to hug Spock very tight.

The Warrior's Way by Tmara. TOS. Spock saves Jim in extremis of a terrible fate and is forced to acknowledge what his friend has become to him. Berserker Spock and mind-link, very intense. Great story.

Should I Fall Behind by Anna Amuse. TOS, can be seen as slash or intense friendship. A devastated McCoy remembers his two best friends and their last moments together before they went to their death. Dark, angsty, heartbreaking and beautiful. 1st person POV (well-done and totally appropriate), double Character Death.

No-Win Scenario by singingintime. Reboot short. As he prepares to beam down to an almost certain death so a planet and billions of people can be saved, Kirk realizes his first officer loves him when Spock gives him an Earth-shattering, passionate and desperation-laden kiss. The sheer intensity of this, because they both know this first moment might very well be their last... Wow. Awesome.

Real Life Love by Stella Andrea. Reboot, oneshot. Jim is in love with Spock, who believes he loves Uhura who is pregnant with his child. To get a little solace, Jim creates a hologram of Spock who can return his love. Poignant and original, with a concept I love. To read listening to the Beatles' Real Love or Guns' November Rain (at least that's what I do. Has a companion piece, Holographic love, from the POV of the hologram. That one made me bawl my eyes out. :(

What you Love by sans_pertinence. Long TOS oneshot. Best Plato's Stepchildren aftermath fic. After their ordeal with the Platonians, Kirk seeks his first officer so they both come to terms with what happened to them down there...and what might have happened. 1st person Kirk POV, one of the few I have enjoyed and that's because Kirk's characterization here might the best I have ever read in a fanfiction. His voice is spot on, mature, intelligent, confident and self-aware, with just enough derision and self-doubt to make him realistic; Kirk has never felt more human than in this story yet I have seldom admired him more. Spock remains more mysterious as he's seen only through Kirk's eyes, but you can feel how deeply vulnerable he is, and how well Kirk knows him. A great piece.

Slow Beginnings by Amanda Warrington. Reboot, long oneshot. My favorite work by this very solid author yet, it chronicles the slow development of the frienship between Spock and his captain and its deepening into love during the course of the five-year mission. Jim's list of top 10 things to do, which serves as an underlying frame to tie the moments together, was a fun idea that never felt too heavy or restrictive because there are also a lot of scenes that aren't related to it at all: Spock's relationship with Uhura, missions on foreign planets, quiet conversations between the captain and his First... The progression between the scenes is logical both on an emotional level and story-wise, and we get a very satisfying overview of Spock's emotional maturation process and Jim truly growing into his captaincy. Really well-written and entertaining.

Sharing the Sunlight by Jenna Hilary Sinclair. TOS. Long, gorgeous story where Kirk realizes he has feelings for Spock, confesses to him, and then they have to overcome Spock's mental barriers against love. Internal conflict in the first half, more external in the second half. This story has a bevy of very good sequels.

Don't stop believing by KianSpo. Reboot, long. Starts with Spock/Pike but intends to end on Kirk/Spock. Don't let the S/P turn you off, it's incredibly well done. WIP.

Liar's Itch by Jesmihr. TOS, oneshot. Jim catches a virus that makes him itch every time he tells a lie. Spock learns of it and seizes the opportunity to get a few answers of his own... If you like seeing Jim digging his own grave deeper and deeper with every word, you're gonna love this. Humourous, cute and very entertaining:). Good characterization.

Eclipse by Aconitum-Napellus. TOS, chaptered, non-slash. An explosion on the Enterprise kills a hostile ambassador and blinds Spock. Was it an accident or foul play? With Jim and the Enterprise's crew's help, Spock searches for the truth even as he tries to learn to deal with the lost of his most important sense. Well written, very long and details, a lot of insight into Spock's psyche and beautiful depiction of Jim, McCoy and Uhura's friendship for Spock (especially Jim :D).

The Benefits of Fresh Air by Mariole. Reboot, adventure, non-slash (S/U). Spock needs some R&R and goes on leave. Meanwhile, Uhura has to deal with his replacement, an eager Science Officer female with a serious case of hero-worship for her predecessor and Kirk reinforces the bonds among his crew. Little does he know the biggest crew-bonding will come with Spock's return... Well-written, absolutely hilarious, but contains deeper moments as well. There's an extremely interesting, sensitive and rather sharp study of the relationships aboard the Enterpise hidden beneath that appearance of jolly good fun. Very good characterization.

Desert Heat and sequels by Gayle F. TOS. A classic Pon Farr cave fic from the early days of K/S, to which we owe the fanon Spock double-ridged cock. Feels surprisingly not dated at all, with great angst, passion and tenderness between the heroes, with hot and rather realistic male-on-male sex and thankfully purple-free prose. The sequels are also very good, with a special mention to the 4th and last installment Between Friends, featuring an amazing Jim/Bones/Spock threesome.

Cries of the Children by Debbie Cummins. TOS long oneshot, poss. pre-slash. Spock's brief and accidental intrusion in a parallel world has devastating consequences on it. Can he learn to deal? Beautiful story of emotional hurt/comfort, with Jim steadfastly present for his friend. Great character development and excellent writing.

A Song of Distant Shores by Lyrastar. TOS long oneshot. The tale of Kirk and Spock's story, told in the way of The Little Mermaid. Poetic, lyrical and powerful.

What Friends are For by KianSpo. Reboot, chaptered. Spock's sense of worth was shattered at the Academy, where he was mocked and violated. Now that he is a respected young officer on the Enterprise, he thinks these shameful days are behind him. But when well-liked Stevens, an old friend of Jim, comes aboard to inspect the ship, the old nightmare begins all over again for Spock. Angsty hurt/comfort fic that might make you want to smack a few characters around for their blindness and wrap your arms around Spock to protect him from harm. Well-written, contains a lot of introspection.

Mazel Ra and sequel Mazel Tov by verizonhorizon. Reboot. Spock discovers that because of mindmelds with Spock Prime, he and Jim are now bonded. **To complete**

Only Good For Legends by Leupagus. Reboot, AU, chaptered. Sent to rural Iowa as a punishment for refusing to let a foreign diplomat escape murder charges, young police officer Spock strikes a tentative friendship with the town's most repeat offender, brilliant and endearing troublemaker James T. Kirk. **To complete**

His Darkest Hour by jeshmir. **To complete**

Moment of Our Silence by Keeleywolfe. Reboot short. Gym porn. Kirk can't find sleep after the Narada incident and provokes Spock into sparring with him. He knows Spock is stronger but he won't yield, no matter the stakes. OMFG hawt sex.

Joyriding by verizonhorizon. Reboot, short. Sexy Spock in leather goes for a motorcycle ride with Jim. Hot and thrilling. Plus, did I mention sexy Spock in leather?

Logical Customs 1, 2, 3, 4. by Manic-Intent. Reboot, AU, unfinished. Youngest teacher at Starfleet Academy James Kirk is asked by his colleague and godfather Pike to mentor a young Vulcan cadet named Spock. Spock takes this mentor-student business very seriously and quickly drives his mentor crazy. Funny inversion of roles, with characters very true to themselves nevertheless. To see Spock completely clueless about Kirk and his own developping feelings is fun as hell, and seeing Kirk slowly start to appreciate his young student makes you smile.

The Tirizan, J S Cavalcante. TOS oneshot. An emphatic alien fnds himself playing matchmaker between Kirk and Spock. Lovely writing and great OC. **to expand**

Retaliation is Fair Game by Cruz. TOS, oneshot. A moment of utter tenderness between Kirk and Spock following the events of Amok Time. Romantic almost to the point of cheesiness but God, I love it.

Four Times Spock was faithful to Uhura (and one time he was not) by Pepperlandgirl (aka M/M romance author Pepper Espinoza). Reboot. Spock is involved with Uhura. In all logic he has to be faithful to her. But when fate conspire to place him in close quarters and intimate circumstances with his captain, his incredible will is put to the test. I love how each of the 5 first vignettes draw Spock inexorably closer to his captain, closer to admitting his feelings for Jim, closer to snapping. The illiciteness of the surrender when it happens lends a delicious thrill to the thing. By a professional writer with an obvious love for the characters.

The Sum of its Parts by Jbmcdragon. Reboot, chaptered. Kirk and Spock are taken hostage, brutally beaten and tortured. Jim loses most of his memory and has brutal attacks that make him lose a little more each time. But somehow, he knows that this Spock guy with him is someone he can trust. Will they be able to get them to safety? I love heroes have mental/memory issues and the author did a great job at describing Jim's mental process, his despair, confusion and helplessness, and his relationship with Spock was a compelling one. This story will have a sequel, so don't worry too much about the ending :).

Cave Paintings by jeshmir. TOS oneshot. Days after Amok Time, Spock enters Pon Farr again while alone with Jim on a shore leave camping trip. Hot with nice descriptions.

Shrinking the Gap by AloneDreaming (or Honey we Shrunk Kirk and Spock). Reboot, non-slash. Kirk and Spock's friendship didn't develop overnight. Sometimes it takes a trek through the desert while reduced to thumb size to establish trust and create a bond. Funny and well-done adventure fic, with nice dialogue. I could see something like that as a TV episode :).

Rumor has it by Dana Austin March. TOS. Tired of having crewmembers throwing themselves at them, Kirk ropes in Spock with a plan to make the crew believe they are involved together so they'd have peace. This is blissful toture for Spock who is for brief moments allowed to act on the feelings he can never admit. But the crew seems puzzlingly blind to their "slips" and as they are "forced" to do more and more intimate things in public, Kirk gets into the "game" more than he'd have thought... Funny and full of sexy little moments.

Birthday traditions by Corpus Invictus. Reboot short. Spock is determined to uphold Human traditions at Jim's birthday and courageously endeavours to bake his lover a chocolate cake himself. Chocolate is intoxicating to Vulcan, but of course he doesn't intend to sample the confection. Although it is only logical to ascertain that the taste of the preparation is adequate. And then that is hasn't been affected by the grease in the pan. And then Jim gets home to a thoroughly drunk Vulcan... Hilarious and cute with hot sexytimes with your favorite green-blooded alien! Very well written.

Kirk: Owner's Guide and Maintenance Manual by SpirkTrekker42. Hilarious user's guide for all buyers of a Kirk unit, suited both for model 1.0 (Shatner Kirk) and 2.0 (Pine Kirk). All you need to know about your Kirk's functionalities and characteristics, as well as his connexions with the unit Spock. Owner's guides to units Spock and McCoy also available separately.

Spock has feelings by ghostmeat. Reboot. Jim has a nightly visitor he's unaware of... **to complete**

Touch by JS Cavalcante. TOS, oneshot. Bones informs Jim that their new Vulcan ensign is gay and into Spock. Jim finds he doesn't like that one bit... For manipulating Bones and Kirk assuaging his claim even while still clueless about his own feelings.

The REAL trouble with Tribbles by Renata Lord. What if among the tribbles from the famous TOS episode, there had been a tribble!Jim and tribble!Spock ? It would start with something like this: Spock refuses to coo. He deigns it too undignified. Total crack fic!! So cute and fun as hell.

Nerve Endings by Brittany Diamond. Part of her collection of oneshots "Insert Slash Here". Kirk is looking for an excuse to have Spock touch him and decides to ask his friend teach him the Vulcan nerve pinch. The lesson doesn't quite go as planned... Hilarious.

Triptych by Sahviere. Reboot, short, Kirk/Spock/Uhura. Stranded on a planet for years, their chances of rescue all but nonexistent, Kirk, Spock and Uhura must resign themselves to becoming in truth the "mating triad" they are believed to be or risk the local community growing hostile. True affection grows between all three parties, but one true love is also revealed, leaving one of them forever aside... Both beautiful and harsh, tender and bittersweet , this is a powerfully written short story, with the forced intimacy their circumstances reduce them to causing an epiphany for two of the protagonists, revealing their muual passion and love. Guess who :).

Need by jemariel. TOS oneshot. While the Enterprise is on Altair VI for diplomatic ceremonies, Spock has a relapse of pon farr. **To complete**

Bragging Rights by Ragdoll. Reboot, chaptered. Bones wagers that Jim can't stay away from women for a full month. Good thing the person Jim just developed a fascination for is not a woman... **To complete**

Christmas Gifts or Blue Seduction by Kira-Nerys. TOS long oneshot. Possibly Kira's best story. **To complete**

The Concept of Love and T'hy'la by Kira-Nerys. TOS oneshot. Over a quiet chess game, Spock explains to his captain the Vulcan concept of T'hy'la and its differences and resemblances to Human love. Soft and sweet with lovely undercurrents and slowly building UST.

Distraction by Amanda Warrington. Reboot oneshot. Jim catches Spock masturbating in their shared shower and being the horny bastard he is, can't stop thinking about it all day. Especially since Spock seems to be doing everything he can to drive him crazy... Yay for sneaky Vulcans bent on seduction!

Debt of Honor by Brianna Falken. TOS AU novella. In a world where Humans and Vulcans are at war, James Kirk is raped by the Vulcan captain who took him prisoner. When peace is declared months later and the two races ordered to learn to work together, Kirk finds the same Vulcan captain assigned to his ship as his First officer. Very original idea and compelling story, showing how from a very rocky start Kirk slowly buils a working relationship with his new First, starts seeing the good man behind, and finally understand, trust and love him. And no, Spock is never evil despite the rape thing, you will see.

Christmas Healing by Aconitum-Napellus. TOS short. Prisonners on a remote planet, Kirk and Spock share a moment of comfort on Christmas night. Hot, tender and very nicely written.

Mistletoe Challenge by Amanda Warrington. TOS long oneshot. On the last Christmas night of his studies at Starfleet Academy, Spock received one unforgettable kiss from a male cadet. They meet again years later, when the former cadet is named captain of Spock's ship, the Enterprise... But does Jim Kirk remember him?

Tear You Apart by Lalazee. Reboot oneshot. Cadet Kirk fell in lust with professor Spock at first sight and won't relent until he forces a response out of the irresistible Vulcan. But what if lust was only part of it after all? The ultimate teacher-student fantasy come to life, with great characterization, some amazingly hot sex, and Vulcan defenses failing like a house of cards before relentless Kirk will. Especially liked Kirk's vulnerability in the second part.

Through Blind Men's Eyes by ladyblahblah. Reboot, chaptered. Offered by a newly met race with the chance to save Spock, whose life will soon be in danger, Jim agrees without thinking twice. Except Jim and Spock then wake up in each other's body. And then Spock's body goes into Pon Farr. Oh, my. Fantastic original twist on the PF theme, masterfully executed. Great descriptions of what it is for Jim to live inside a Vulcan body and how it alters his view of the world. Writing is awesome.

A Walk in the Dark by Elise Madrid, TOS oneshot. Immediately following the events of Devil in the Dark, in a dark tunnel several levels below the surface, Kirk and Spock acknowledge their mutuals feelings and their impossibility for the moment... but are unable to refuse themselves a quick taste of the forbidden. Hot and sweet. And yep, there is a double meaning to "taste" :-p

Take Refuge in What You Know by Corpus_Invictus. Reboot AU, chaptered. Jim befriends a young Vulcan who lives in the same apartment building and suffers from severe agoraphobia. **To complete**

Lost and Found by UKJess. TOS Gen long oneshot, mostly h/c with some action/adventure. Mysteriously released from months of Romulan torture and believed by all to be a traitor, James T. Kirk is shipped back to Earth for his court-martial. But when the Enterprise turns out to be the only ship about for the job, Jim gets to see how deep his crew's trust runs, and with the help of his two best friends, a broken hero slowly heals and finds his spirit again. One of the most thrilling, moving and outstanding Trek fics I've read. The final confrontation is a true moment of anthology. Go read it.

The Stars Far Away, Faris Vincent (Dovya Blacque). Originally in As I Do Thee 2, 8 pages. This is more K/MC than K/S - Spock actually doesn't even show on the page - but as the K/S undertones play a majoy role in the story, I decided it should be included here. This is a beautiful moment of Jim and Bones comforting each other shortly after their return from the five-year-mission. Spock has already departed for Gol and both of them are feeling bereft, Jim more so because of his never avowed love for his first officer. As they talk about the burden of loneliness and wonder what they'll do of their lives, they find solace in each other's touch and the comforting hugs turn to something more passionate. There is deep, heartfelt story, with beautiful affection between the two friends, a love quieter and different than what Jim feels for Spock but in its way just as important. A tender and moving story with just a bit of angst.

Fighting Gravity by pantswarrior. Reboot AU. Jim never saw Spock again after the Narada incident, but back on Earth after his successful five-year mission as Captain of the Enterprise, he sees him again at the spaceport - as a homeless beggar. Horrified at what has befallen the proud Vulcan, he takes him under his wing, despite said Vulcan's protests. Original idea developed well with goood characterization. I love how Jim more or less blackmails Spock into staying with him and then finds logical reasons for Spock to stay at his side - and Spock finds some to stay. Spock always remains proud despite his ordeal. Very light on the sex, the focus is the plot and relationship.

To Have and To Hold by ladyblahblah. Reboot short. What happens when Kirk and Spock get drunk in Vegas. Hot, hot, HOT! I love those carried-away-by-devouring-passion stories. :-D

Like a Moth to a Flame by littlebirdtold, Reboot oneshot. Jim and Spock meet as teens on the intergalactic chess tournament circuit and Jim becomes obsessed with the Vulcan champion he can't seem to defeat. Works on the "opposites attracts" principle, or is that "love is never far from hatred?" Clash, push-pull, more clashing, and loads of UST throughout before they admit their feelings!

The Third Wheel by littlebirdtold. Reboot, long oneshot. Bones bets Jim he can't seduce Uhura in 2 months. Jim immediately and unabashedly sets out to do so - by crashing Uhura's dates with Professor Spock. But along the way, he finds the focus of his interest shifting... Fantastic Academy fic with great dialogue, desk-pounding-funny moments, and slow-building-to-scorching-hot tension! Jim is especially outrageous and well done, never intimidated by Professor Spock in the slighest.

Check Mate by Amanda Warrington. TOS long oneshot. Retelling of The Cloud Minders with K/S goggles. Droxine was only a facade, it's Jim that Spock wanted all along. A lovely story that explains everything that felt wrong with this episode and shows a courageous Spock orchestrating a slow, bold and methodical seduction of his Captain. Includes a red-hot masturbation scene and kissing lessons (squee!!). Outstanding characterization, as usual.

Star Trek 2009: The Parody. Reboot, obviously :) Hilarious parody retelling of the movie, full of snark, ruthlessly pointing out the (numerous) plot holes but also the high points (still with dry wit), and to our delight, with a definite K/S biais. Full of awesome lines that willl have you howling with laughter!

Evolution by Rhaegal. Reboot, chaptered. Keep count of the torn shirts!

Leave No Soul Behind by whochick. Reboot AU, chaptered, WIP. In a timeline where Nero wasn't defeated after Vulcan's destruction and continues to ravage the galaxy, Jim Kirk leaves Starfleet to enroll in the spatial ambulance service EPAS, where he finds himself serving under the orders of the same Spock who saved his life after the Enterprise crashed. One of the few stories that successfully places Spock in charge with Jim his subordinate, and even more rare shows Spock being GREAT as a leader - I adore his characterization here. It takes a few chapters to fully understand the context of this universe, but the world-building is fabulous, the relationships between the characters complex and multi-layered and the psychological insight into the characters is nothing short of inspired. Great OCs.

Tell Me Lies by Littlebirdtold. Reboot, long oneshot. Jim has forgotten the last 7 years of his life following a mission injury and can't seem to remember anyone except Spock - and since he'd totally hit THAT, it only makes sense that he remembers the Vulcan because the two of them are in a secret relationship. Right? Shameless! Jim and tentative, deeply touching Spock whose care for his captain causes him to go along with Jim's delusion - and then get caught up helplessly, hopelessly in his spell, causing desperation when the moment for Jim to be "cured" nears. Great twist on the amnesia trope, entertaining but full of emotion, a perfect blend of funny, moving and angst.

Boldun by Stella-Andrea. Reboot oneshot, pre-slash. The Bolduns thought they could make Jim Kirk talk by torturing his crewmembers in front of him. They didn't know how his First Officer's support could anchor him to his duty and make him cling to life. Very dark fic, much heavier on the hurt than the comfort, but with a stubborn ray of hope that refuses to relent even at the grimest points, thanks to Jim and Spock relentless support of each other. It's raw and gritty with lots of gore, even more horrifying once they start describing Spock's torture and later Jim's, but very efficient and punch-in-the-gut. One of the most powerful fics I've ever read. Has a sequel with Affliciton's Son, completely different in tone.

Imprint by DB2020. Reboot, chaptered, WIP. When their first diplomatic mission goes wrong and Spock is reverted to 13 years old by the blast of a mysterious sacred artifact, Kirk must run from Talosian rebels and protect his de-aged first officer. Fantastic twist on the de-aged trope, adding the suspense of a desperate run for survival to the age regression issues. Action-packed first chapters, with great establishing of the K&S dynamic in the beginning and lovely fiercecely protective Jim afterwards. Excellent characterization with Kirk a highly competent captain and great POV of Spock at 13 that sounds both like Spock and like a young boy.

Exchanges by Deanna Gray. TOS long oneshot. A deep meld Spock initiated with his Captain during the Turnabout Intruder incident has unexpected side effects when the day after dropping Janice Lester on a starbase, Jim awakens in the body of his first officer. Thanks to the high quality of the writing, this story has a depth and belivability its silly premise doesn't hint at. No crack, but a surprisingly plausible body-swapping aftermath of the episode, exploring some of the physiological differences between Kirk and Spock through Jim's eyes as well as his feelings for his first officer as he realizes why this transference doesn't upsets him as much as the first one. Fun factor from watching Jim and Spock impersonating each other to fool the crew in the meantime, with a resounding success that shows how well they know each other.

Report from the Rim by Carolyn Spencer. TOS long oneshot. A prisoner on a rim world is called up by a Federation interviewer to report on the recent incarceration of two Starfleet officers. This is... beyond words. First Time, public sex, protective Spock, protective Jim, aliens-made-them-do-it, this story hit all my buttons. Fantastic OC narrator and wonderfully vivid depiction both of the harsh carceral world and the burst of sunshine Kirk and Spock's example bring to the place. An absolute keeper.

Within Reach by littlebirdtold. Reboot long oneshot. Devastated after Spock's death in a transporter accident, Jim takes to listening to his first officer's logs - and impossibly, finds a way to bring him back. Will the experience make him realize there's more than friendship behind this constant urge to wrap himself around Spock? Excellent angst, showing a lost and vulnerable Jim who cuddles Spock at every turn, torturing him with all the cruelty of by utter oblivion. You might wish to smack him then you can't help but want to hug him fiercely. The only fic in which I started crying during the sex from overwhelming emotion.

The God who Bleeds by spockaholic. TOS oneshot. Following his return from Amerind, Kirk experiences anger and resentment towards Spock for tearing him away from his peaceful, happy life with Miramanee, even as his secret feelings for the Vulcan resurface. Beautifully done hurt/comfort, lyrical prose and great psychological portrayal of Kirk after a difficult ordeal.

Kirk James T. Kirk by T'key'la. Reboot AU, chaptered, WIP. When bestselling novelist Jim Kirk's pusblishing house is sold to new Vulcan owners, Jim is worried it might lead to their discovery of his double life as a spy. So much more light-harted than it sounds. Imagine Jim living in a huge mansion of a frathouse with Bones, with all the reboot Trek characters walking in and out constantly, and Spock as Jim's new editor asking the boy wonder of the House for 209 revisions on his newest manuscript. Loool. Funny, captivating, with much witty and fast-paced dialogue.

The Deep End of Emotion by Dana Austin March. TOS long oneshot. Thrown into unexpected intimacy by the happening of Spock's pon farr, Jim and Spock try to resume their initial friendship, to find it deepening with every day. Wonderful, sweet and surprisingly deep story from an author better known for her fun and light romps.

Love and Logic by Dovya Blacque. TOS, post-TMP.

Once Upon a Time by littlebirdtold. Reboot, chaptered. In a universe where First Contact never happened, a unhappy young Kirk is transported by Q on Vulcan, where he is told his destined true love resides. His expectations did NOT include being attacked by a feral - and kind of hot - prince in pon farr, though... Slow start, and I had trouble with the way Kirk and Sock first "met", but once the connection between them clicked into place it all worked out beautifully. They can't keep their hands off each other pretty much for the entire story. Did you say hot?

SecondBest Destiny by KCS. AOS with some TOS & TNG crossover. Chapter 6!! *awww*. OMFG, chapter 9!!! *wailing*

Finding the Silver Lining by Cruz. Prob. TOS. Angsty and dips into emo to the point of cheesiness several times, but I loved it anyway. And it is a pon farr story *g*

Mission: Mistletoe by notboldly50295. Reboot.

From the Beginning by Aelin. A rare and wonderful TOS Academy fic. Spock was enthralled with the brilliant and unusual James Kirk right from the start. The story of how they met, established a friendship, realized it was more...and then fought to accept it.

Tiger Burning Bright by Carolyn Spencer. Originally in Within the Mirror 9 (80-pages novella) In this slightly AU Mirror story, Captain James Kirk finds himself saddled with a Vulcan hostage, the grandson of Vulcan's ruler kidnapped to ensure T'Pau and Vulcan's compliance with the Empire. Spock turns out to be far from what he expected, and the jaded Kirk slowly falls for the gifted, quiet man who inexplicably seems to see something worthy in him. BESTEST. MIRROR. STORY. EVER. Wonderfully sensitive and humane portrayal of Mirror! Kirk, and an unsophisticated but intense Spock as a worthy match. Brilliant and gripping.

Little Sorrows, Dovya Blacque, from As I Do Thee 4. When Jim starts experiencing insomnia and increasing difficulty to wake up after a close Academy friend's death, Spock discovers the two shared a mental link that is slowly dragging Jim in death with it.
