Awards...

Let me start this journal by saying I enjoy fandom-based events and recognizing talent within the fandom.  The key word being within.

Today I want to chat a little about the Ursa Major Awards, a great idea that unfortunately gets lost in pointlessness.  The majority of the nominees are non-furry, mainstream projects which likely don't care about ( Read more... )

My understanding of the Ursa Major Awards is not to spread awareness of the fandom but to spread awareness to fandom members of various works of furry media and art.

"Best fursuit" category == the Fandom's Favorite Fursuit Fracas, and yes, it does create a ton of drama. :P (Past winners are disqualified from future tourneys though.)

Yeah, I understand the reasoning, I am just highly doubtful of that happening. <=)

EDIT: read your comment a little wrong. I thought you meant spreading the fandom to those outside it. Completely opposite of what you said - I apologize for that!

Pretty sure most of the fandom has heard of much of the mainstream things listed there. I never saw any of the movies listed, but I at least heard of them. Doesn't make me want to watch Toy Story, really. <=)

The idea is good, but you're right. It should be fandom based things only. Toy Story 3 won best animated film at the Academy Awards. They won't care in the least about a silly online award. (Though I'm surprised you don't want it to win. I know you did voice work for Trixie. I KNOW YOU DID ( ... )

I just kinda' threw fursuit out there as an example, but you are right, the possibilities are endless!

And I think your memory of my voice is distorted. ;)

It seems to me that the whole point of giving an award is to stir up drama among the possible recipients.

As Skipyfox said, FFFF is a cauldron of drama. The Academy Awards are nearly "hire-a-hitman" level of drama. Even these little Ursa Major web-trophies can cause a good mouse to write a scathing post.

Maybe some people think it's worth the trouble, But I see awards like these as destructive to the interests they're trying to promote. Maybe it's just me, though.

Ha ha, I don't think this is a "scathing post". I don't typically write about my actual thoughts about anything online. Guess it's strange when I do...

My ability to read things in a tone other than intended has been well documented. :(
sorry.

Buck's a great guy and puts an amazing amount of effort into the FBA. I was fortunate enough to voice one of his characters early on (the character was bland, so right up my alley ;). I don't know how he keeps up with it ( ... )
