Which one do you read now?:) I did the same, just swallowed all her novels in a months or so.
Your story is very sad as love is what every woman is longing for and I do hope you'll find YOUR MAN who will show you the rainbows!

The other story you've told... I don't know if there's right or wrong desicion to make. My personal opinion is that women keep memories longer than men, and that it's easier for men to find another women as someone once told me - He needed someone to cook for him and pick up his socks... There are so much more women who have to live alone, some of them would love to change the situation, some of them are fine with it. But men usually scared to stay alone, so it's better for them to be with someone even if it's not a great love.

I'm happilly married now) but this story from the past still remains in my mind and sometimes I think - why did it all happen? or more likely why nothing did happen?)

Probably you are right, it's more difficult for a man to stay alone emotionally and physically as well.

Greg... He's such a nuisance. Everything he did at the proposal was improper: the place, the words, the actions. He is mediocre from head to toes whereas Rosie needed a knight or a prince, not his gun-man for she was dreaming of a fairy-tale wedding proposal and a 'long and happy living ever after'. He never was a prince and yet he turned into a frog well before the wedding.

From the other side he was the first man who had ever proposed to Rosie and showed her his interest. I mean we all judge knowing that Alex was in love with her, but for her she was unhappy and lonely for 10 years and desperate to be loved by someone. In that case perfect was the enemy of good...
Anyway I don't like Greg as well:) I just can understand Rosie's choice.

Greg was so boring and selfish. But he was doing good with Rosie's daughter. And I think this was the main reason Rosie agreed for this relationship. He was looking stable. The thing she needed so much!
The proposal could be the ringing bell, specially comparing to what Alex told about proposal... But Alex words were just words, while Greg PROPOSED.

(I finished reading, mentioned it before already, just in case)

I believe she agreed mostly following the principle that it's better to have someone that noone or as Russians wisely put it "На безрыбье и рак - рыба". I just regret that they were not flexible and decisive enough to change their decisions.

Greg is ordinary that was clear from the very beginning. So he'd made to Rosie an ordinary proposal, not very special wedding, cheated on her and became an arsehole for me afterwards. Rosie married Greg just because Alex was not alongside, she was waiting for him for so many years, she let him know with a kiss he could be more than a friend. As for me, Alex should had fight for happiness and love from this kiss. And not to sit and suffer quietly in Boston with Saly. All the problems that people are afraid to speak about the main thing about their feelings!

I'm on page 151. The story keeps going for me :-)

I do remember that phrase Ruby said to Rosie about bad timing. It seems to mee Alex wasn't ready to start relationships with Rosie when they kissed in Boston and lived a couple of happy years with Sally. Or at least he worked so hard it didn't bother hin that his relations weren't perfect.

Good afternoon! Yes, the plot is getting more and more intriguing :) I even suffer from the impossibility of devouring the novel as if it was in russian.
Greg... firstly he seemed to me as a secure and calculating man. May be Rosie was needed the such one. But also he is little boring. And, of course, he didn't know Rosie well, he didn't feel her at all. And Alex did! But Alex was far from her and he was married and Greg was near and free. May be Greg really loved Rosie, but his love was selfish. And the story with Alex's letter shows it well.
Now i'm reading the chapter 20.

It's sad that sometimes we have noone to chose from and between Greg and noone Rosie has chosen Greg. But as they say, life gives you not what you want but what you need. So maybe it helped Rosie to understand that sometimes it's better to stay alone than with someone who doesn't worth you.
