You have some nice imagery here. And - what a sly way to give us a glimpse of Laurie's relationship with Charles.

That little bit was originally written for the very first story in the series-which, at that time, continued to follow Alexander as he turned back and returned to the clubhouse, after which there was another scene with other people. In the end, I decided to post just the first part. The change in POV really didn't work. However, Alexander's walk back had to be cut, too, since it was a transition, and there was no longer anything for it to transition to.

Still, I didn't delete any of it. It was a nice-albeit tiny-piece; and I hate deleting things that work, even when they don't quite fit. Instead, things got mulled over in the back of my head. You've been seeing the results.

In some ways, many of these ficlets have been bringing characters on scene and manoeuvring them into position. Fortunately, part of that required me to get young A. not merely into the ITOWverse but into the pond-and that afforded me the chance to work in the little scene with the punt.
