In some ways the brothers are so similar - it's just Mycroft has developed a more polished facade over the years.

*Very* good. That would be the kind of skimpy research/taking out of context that would *really* come back to bite someone.

The major/minor difference sounds very plausible. Those who wrote it up never expected it to be taken out of context, and in context it's obvious who it refers to.

Kitty likes sensation: I suspect she didn't want to investigate Rich Brook's story too closely, in case it fell apart and she didn't get her front-page story. So I presume she'd be so desperate to dig out dirt on Sherlock that "minor" details wouldn't bother her.

I don't often write evil!Mycroft, but frankly Kitty Riley probably deserves it. (Though I still want to write one where she gets her comeuppance from Mrs Hudson).

Been very busy with professional writing (on dodgy medieval priests, among other topics) and several long fics that have got bogged down. But I couldn't resist a quick bit of Mycroft being sneaky.
