I love food entries. I wish I could send you vegetables somehow.

I totally did steal the corn and spinach off the cold, gross, unrefrigerated leftover pizza the next day, if you were wondering. It was one of more disgusting things I've done in a while.

Disgusting...yes...but the sort of thing you should look back on with pride.

Can you use your meager monatary means to buy yourself some fruit or veg at the cafeteria? I'd say being healthy is more important than being absolutely fiscally responsible, especially if your host family provides you with other food.

I'm not actually THAT poor, but regardless, there is no fruit or vegetable option to speak of at any of the cafeterias or the convenience store. Fruit is really, really expensive in Japan, so you don't find it in cafeterias or student-oriented restaurants. I think vegetables are quite expensive too. I bought a bag of tangerines the other day, though, so I'll be okay. It cost four dollars, which was doable. But peaches, for example, cost 5-6 dollars for just one, and I've heard that a package of 4-6 kiwis can cost 30 dollars. Watermelon is like $40 for one, too.

No fruit to be had? How sad. Ich liebe Obst and all obst related things. But you get coolioso vending machine drinks. They are such an icon of Japanese comics and such. And drink lots of tea. Or something. I'm sure your metabolism will still be as stellar as it is now.

PS my entire diet freshman year basically consisted of Ramen and saltine crackers and Pepsi. And the occasional Panther-stamped waffle. So have heart!

That reminds me, Tiffany, there's this drink here that I think you, more than anyone else I know, would love. It's called Fanta Furu-Furu Shaker, and it's basically Fanta where you shake up the can and then, instead of the soda exploding in your face as one might expect, the Fanta turns into Jello. Like...drinkable Jello. I have no idea how this happens and don't want to know. It's magic as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, it's so great, and I think you'd be a fan.

ZOMG you have no idea how large or breath-depriving my gasp of joy was just then. My brain needs to be on a machine now. I need to go to Japan just to buy this. And it has the best name. i should change my name to Fanta Furu-Furu... Whoa.
