Summary: The readings off the surface aren't promising. Mostly barren and harsh terrain. No power sources. No life outside a meager streak of vegetation around the equator. It's the two crumbling structures and scattered shells of ships that stand out.

How haunting and eerie! I love how sensitive Janeway is to the vibes of the disappeared inhabitants. The mystery really is delicious and I can see her getting caught up in trying to figure out what had happened. Seeing new Caprica through their eyes made it even sadder. Wonderful detail in the archaeological finds:-) I loved that both Janeway and Chakotay were reading Laura's diary. I got great visuals from this--It would've made a great Voyager episode!

It was interesting to really think about once the idea hit me. What would the remains of NC be like? So much was left behind, but so much would have disintegrated given the conditions they were in. It was great fun to imagine.

Diaries are neat historical artifacts- I can just picture the two of them being so utterly fascinated by what they find and trying to get better translations of it as time goes on...

Thanks for reading :D

I've been marathoning Voyager (just finishing Year of Hell right now) so THIS WAS AWESOME. What a great idea. So haunting and bleak and the perfect place for an away mission!

Year of Hell! Only time reset episode I can stand due to sheer Janeway badassery. Unf. That woman.

Glad you enjoyed this so much :D
Have fun with your Voyager marathon!

This is so cool! I love how Janeway and Chakotay are both obsessed with Laura's diary. That's such a lovely image, and I could so see an episode unfolding like this. Lovely.

I love the speculation here, the questions raised through the filter of someone else picking up Laura's journals and contemplating the remnants of the colonists' failed survival. Evocative and well written. Glad to see you posting again. =)
