It's a hard read, but A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man always amazed me. It's full of references, and you'd swear that James Joyce had an IV drip of absinthe while writing it. But it's amazing once you crack it open and start peeling the layers off.

Otherwise, any Elmore Leonard book is cool.

You need to get the Georgia Nicholson books.. they are teen books but so fun to read! :)
