The "Epistles" you mention under Suetonius were actually written by Pliny the Younger, governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor, to the Emperor Trajan. He writes: "Affirmabant autem hanc fuisse summam vel culpae suae vel erroris, quod essent soliti stato die ante lucem convenire, carmenque Christo quasi deo dicere. . . . Neque civitates tantum, sed vicos etiam atque agros superstitionis istius contagio pervagata est" (Epistolae ad Traianum, 10.96(97).7, 9).
