What is it with some mothers who seem to think their little girls can wean nothing but pink? I swear there's at least one first grader that has worn pink in all its shades, with some purple thrown in for variety, throughout the whole year. Like, every single day. I thought it was cute at first but it's kind of weird now ( Read more... )

In the UK there have been complaints from parents' groups that all the clothes in the shops for small girls this year are pink (as well as complaints that all the girl-aimed toys are less exciting than boy-aimed toys). I wonder if the same thing is true of Greece right now as well - like one of those years where every woman in Europe is wearing black (or like early 2007 when it was entirely earth colours and baggy fabrics. I do not look good in either). That said, it seems more... problematic... when it's little girls and pink.

If that's the case, where do all the other moms get the multi-colored outfits for the other girls?I'm not saying the rest of them never wear pink, but they also wear red and yellow and green and even, on rare occasions, blue! Like I said, pink on little girls is cute, but so is any other color. It's like there's someone in some people's heads saying "Thou must dress your girl child in pink!"

As for adult fashion,I never understood why each season should be represented by only one color. Maybe I don't feel like wearing orange this year, or purple, or whatever the 'must wear' color is. I tend to mostly ignore these trends but it makes it really difficult to find nice things to buy.

Hi. :)

I don't want to make excuses for the girl's parents, but it is possible that the girl herself chooses this stuff. I don't remember doing it myself, but I remember my sister spent most of her kindergarten year wearing pink or a dress/skirt (and sometimes both). My mother would ask what she wanted to wear, and that was it. (I think the next year it was blue and shorts, for that matter.)

Of course, that raises the question of whether she did this because she thought it was what girls were "supposed" to wear, but after seeing all of the other kids in their varied clothes I would think that'd be mitigated. And it's a pointless aside if it is the parents and not the girl doing the choosing. :p

You are right, it is possible that the girl chooses her clothes herself. I guess I should have thought of that first.:)

It's still weird to see though.
