Kitten!

Some of you may have seen my update on FB yesterday. It's now almost a full day since I brought in a stray. I just couldn't resist. Oh, he is so cute. I wouldn't be able to resist, either. And I like the idea of fostering him until he's old enough to fend for himself or you can find him a home. But you have that balcony -- surely the balcony negates the "no more cats than humans in the house" rule against Crazy Cat Lady syndrome?

I'm not worried about the Crazy Cat Lady syndrome, not yet. Ask me again if I start picking up more strays. I'm not worried about the Law either, even though we're only allowed 2 pets in an apartment. I'm more worried about making sure it eats enough.

(I'm also pretty sure it's going to be impossible to leave him out in the street after a few weeks. That "no bonding" thing works great in theory but not in real life. :/)

Kitteh!!!

Okay, after the squee, I'd say that if you have a humane society type place, check them out. At the least, get the wee thing tested for feline HIV and other stuff, so he doesn't infect your other cats. Being on the street, he probably has worms and/or ear mites that need cleaning up.

Also, if your cats really don't get along with him, maybe you can see if someone else (family and friends) would adopt him?

Kitten looks really healthy so far, and our cats are up to date to their vaccinations and parasite medication. Shouldn't that mean they are safe? A trip to the vet will be in order at some point, I'm sure. He doesn't look as if he was in the street long. Our guess is someone's cat had kittens and that someone waited 3 or so weeks until their eyes were open and then he dumped them to a place where he knew people fed strays. (I went back there again and again looking for the momma, the neighbors said the kitten(s?) appeared there out of nowhere 2-3 days before I picked him up.)

There is nothing here that's an equivalent of the Humane Society. There are a couple of groups but they aren't really organized or funded, without any real facilities or doctors, they just rely on a few volunteers.
