I have heard some odd complaints about the local Requiem game as of late,
and I would like to address them.
1: CHARACTERS DIE. It doesn't matter how attached you are to them, the power of love will not save you.
2: CHARACTERS LIE. Sometimes, they won't tell you that they want to kill you in advance so you can be prepared.
3: PEOPLE ARE BUSY AND IMPERFECT. If something isn't going fast enough for you, either contact the person and address the issue or learn patience. Sometimes, things take time.
4: LARPS ARE NOT ALL ALIKE. Really. Vampire is supposed to be a gothic horror setting with vampires coming to terms with their nature and how horrible they can be, and is meant to deal mostly with the interpersonal relations between the characters. Werewolf is about the interaction with your pack and the interaction with that pack with other packs and spirits. Mage is about trying to awaken the world to the true reality of magic one bit at a time. Promethean is about something that is inherently unhuman trying to get a soul. And Changeling is about slavery vs. freedom, and all of the other themes previously mentioned to a greater or lesser extent.
5: YOU ARE NOT YOUR CHARACTER: Just because someone likes you doesn't automatically mean they like your character. And vice versa.
6: IT IS THE VST'S JOB TO GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT. If they are not, then people leave their game and they react to that. If they do not react to that, they stop showing up at that game.
7: IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENJOY YOURSELF. It is not anyone else's job to make sure you have fun. If you aren't having fun, DON'T PLAY. Don't bitch about not having fun and expect people to change for you.
8: IT IS NOT THE ST'S JOB TO CONTROL CHARACTERS. Seriously. The characters aren't robots, after all.
9: IF YOU CLOSE YOURSELF OFF TO DEBATE, IT'S BECAUSE YOU KNOW YOU'RE WRONG AND ARE TOO PRIDEFUL TO ADMIT IT. After all, the first step to making a change is the belief that a change is necessary.
10: THE WORST FORM OF ARROGANCE IS THE IDEA THAT OTHER PEOPLE SHOULD CHANGE JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT THEM TO. The best you can hope for is to act the way you want other people to act and try and lead by example.
