C. mentioned in passing a desire for me to write down the rules I have for myself, no doubt because I have mentioned their existence on more than one occasion. Because I am in a reflective sort of mood tonight, now seemed as good a time as any.

Rule #12 is extremely helpful for me to remember...especially with people I know well enough to understand how they like to be treated, and how it differs in important ways from how I like to be treated.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is not a bad general rule...but it surely has its limits.
